Skyrim: Dragonborn DLC Details (Updated)

Skyrim: Dragonborn DLC Details (Updated)

We're a week away from the next Skyrim DLC: Dragonborn. So what do we know about the next DLC so far and what is the status of DLC for PS3? Now updated with more leaked info.

Well, officially, we only know what has been released by Bethesda, and, a few weeks ago, they released the official Trailer and then some info and screenshots about the Add-On. Before that, we even had a reliable leak as to some of what would be in the DLC, thanks to gamers poring through code updates.

Attention: New article is up with new info, screenshots, a more streamlined read and what we 'think' is the most accurate info (but still rumor, though now that Bethesda has contacted us asking for our sources maybe not?):

Skyrim: Dragonborn DLC Leak, Part Deux

(old article, new one at above link):

The trailer revealed to us that there is another Dragonborn, another being out there capable of absorbing dragon souls, one that has been around since the days of the dragon priests.  It showed the player traveling to the island north of Skyrim and Morrowind, Solstheim, as well as the daedric realm believed to be of Hermaeus Mora.  It also gave us a peek at several new pieces of armor and weapons and of new monsters to fight (some of them using spears), and even showed the character climbing on a dragon.

The info released with the screen shots that followed offered a few more details, pointing out new shouts and spells, including Dragon Aspect (allowing you to summon inner power of the dragon to deliver colossal blows and strengthen other shouts), the ability to discover dark new powers in a new Daedric realm (again we assume Hermaeus Mora's) while collecting books of forbidden knowledge, and the ability to choose new paths for skills and abilities.  It also told us what the code leak hinted at: new armors of Bonemold, Chitin and Stalhrim, and new locations of Solstheim, Raven Rock and Skaal.

So that ends the official information released so far, now we will dive into the rumor, speculation and 'leaks' floating around the internet...

So what sort of info has leaked about the game so far after beta testing?  And is it reliable?  Honestly, we won't really know until next week, but this is a bit of info I've seen floating around a couple places and I for one think is hogwash:

So apparently the dlc is as big as the actual vanilla game, and we get a whopping 278 new items and "A Ton of quests".
As for spears sadly we don't get them apparently only rieklings use them and technically their arrows we can shoot with our bow. They also don't do allot of damage.
We also get "deathbran" armor which apparently is better then ebony. Along with stalhrim which as far as i know is for armor and weapons.
Apparently the dlc is very hard as well, he said "you wont beat it on master" We'll see about that.
And he also said he has boots that *dundundun* you can walk on water with! Im exited for that.

Pretty much from the point of "the DLC is just as big as the vanilla game," they lost me, though I could see the deal with spears being possible, though it would break the hearts of many gamers waiting to get their hands on spears for the game.

Now, in response to this, there was a forum post that will go un-named to protect the source that offers (possibly) more accurate information.  Though not being from my own eyes, I can only say these are rumors; they may be HUGE SPOILERS if accurate though, so beware and proceed at your own risk (now with more info added, thanks to 'The_Penis_Wizard' on reddit):

  • The size of Solstheim is about equal to the reach and it does have its own seperate map.
  • The map above is from another 'leak' and is said to be similar, but that the markers shown on it are not accurate.
  • Location actually discovered by player so far: Raven Rock, Tel Mithryn, Skaal Village, Fort Frostmoth, Ashfallow Citadel, Highpoint Tower, Hrodulf's House, Abandoned Lodge, Kolbjorn Barrow, Bloodskaal Barrow, Vaholok's Tomb, Gyldenhul Barrow, Dwemer Ruines of Nchardak, Kagrumez and Fahlbtharz, Saering's Watch Dragon Lair, Miraak's Temple, and plenty more.  Plus 'Last Vigil' location added in Skyrim.
  • There is a deathbrand armor that is similar to stolhrim and there are two unique scimitars the player can get by the end of the quest.
  • The ability to walk on water is back in potion and enchantment form.
  • Camps of werebears seen, though no word on whether player can become one.
  • No word on dragon riding yet.
  • The glowing dragon armor from the trailer is from the Dragon Aspect shout and can only be used once per day.
  • 'The Oghma Infinium is just the beginning', leading into the fact that the Hermaeus Mora speculation is accurate.
  • New Player Homes
  • The Volcano pictured in the trailer is the Red Mountain and does spew ash constantly.
  • A few other details dropped: Delvin Mallory is Sapphire's uncle, Burnt Spriggans, Captain Falx Carius, Gratian Caerellius, King of the Little People, Mind Control, Serpents, Telvani Master Neloth.  (Players from back in Morrowind days may recognize more of these details than others)
  • Rumored achievements:
    Outlander - Arrive on Solstheim 20 G
Raven Rock Owner - Own a house in Raven Rock 20 G
Solstheim Explorer - Discover 30 Locations on the island of Soltheim 30 G
The Temple of Knowledge - Complete "The Temple of Miraak" 20 G
The Path of Knowledge - Complete "The Path of Knowledge" 20 G
At the Summit of Apocrypha - Complete "At the Summit of Apocrypha 40 G
Hidden Knowledge - Learn the secrets of 5 Black Books 40 G active effects I was talking about earlier
Stalhrim Crafter - Craft an item out of Stalhrim 20 G
Dragon Aspect - Learn all 3 words of Dragon Aspect 20 G
    DragonRider - Tame and Ride 5 dragons 20 G
  • For mages: A ring that allows resurrected creatures to explode into frost and fire damage when damaged.
  • New conjuration spells for the new Ash creatures.
  • A new conjuration spell that allows for the summoning of something cool that the poster doesn't want to spoil.
  • DLC starts by Cultists of Miraak searching for the 'false' dragonborn (you) and trying to kill you.  You backtrack their path to find your way to Solstheim.
  • Poster says they are 30 hours in so far and still not done, though also added you could probably rush through in 10 perhaps.
  • 5 new shouts: Cyclone (a mini tornado - funny to see), Bend Will (force a dragon to fight with you), Dragon Riding (they haven't gotten to this yet), Dragon Aspect (the glowing armor you see in the trailer) and Battle Fury (like elemental fury, but for NPCs).

Again, I can't vouch for these rumors personally, so take it all with a grain of salt; but who doesn't love to discuss the possibility of what new toys and adventures are coming out that we get to play with?   Either way, we'll all know how accurate they are next week.

Did I say a week?  Well, we know it's next week for XBox players, but what about PC players, and the even bigger question, what about PS3 players?

There have been some speculations about what Bethesda is able to talk about due to a contract with XBox.  Some have pointed out they 'had a contract to release the first two DLC's exclusively for 30 Days on XBox, so this third one should be coming out all at once on every platform'.  Others have speculated that, 'Hearthfire wasn't a real DLC so it didn't count toward the contract,' despite it getting the same 30 day exclusive treatment.  Either way, it's ALSO been pointed out that Bethesda hasn't advertised the release of the DLC for other platforms, even on PC, the DLC's just become available one day with little fanfair.  So speculation is that they may only be able to advertise the XBox DLC and that they are coming out for the PC the same time, and maybe even the PS3 and because of this they can't offer an update until after the release date of December 4th.

If it's not obvious by all the "he said", "she said", "we thinks"; this is all speculation and fan-chatter as Bethesda has done a poor job communicating what is going on.  Whether this is because their hands are contractually tied or not, we don't know; though it is curious as Bethesda is normally a very fan friendly company.  I've personally reached out to their customer service guy (in the tweet posted): DCDeacon, and his responses to both fans and websites seems to be random.  If it is a contractual thing that is keeping them from talking, then that was a terrible contract to sign.  It's one thing to offer some exclusive content for a time to a platform, this is a business after all, but it's another thing to let them tie your hands when dealing with customers of other platforms who just want information.

Personally I wonder if at least the Dragonborn DLC will come out for PS3, due to the files we saw in the early leaks.

$DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT_PS3 DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT

MainList.entryList.push({text: "$DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT" + (iPlatform == 3 ? "_PS3" : ""), index: StartMenu.DLC_INDEX, disabled: false});

Perhaps this is the reason Solstheim is in its own map and not just an extension of the same skyrim map.  If most of the new data is in a seperate 'world' with Solstheim and a daedric realm, perhaps that will solve the issues with RAM the game has encountered on the PS3 with the other DLCs?  Or best possibility of all: maybe they are still trying to tie up a few pieces and will release it all at once for PS3 users, and they don't want to get hopes up if whatever they are doing doesn't work.

As you can see from the tweet above though, Bethesda is not willing to offer any new information on the DLC PS3 issues yet, for whatever reason.  They know fans are pissed and they are working on it, but no more has been offered through several updates over the past few months.  Again, perhaps in a week we'll get more official information.  Dragonborn comes out for XBox on Tuesday, December 4th.  As for PC and PS3, we'll post any additional info as soon as we have it, maybe next week as well? Fingers crossed.
