WINNER - Most Maddening Moment of the Year - 2012

2012 gave us a lot to be mad about, but which moment in comics earned fanboy fury oh so much? Wonder no more!!

I can safely say that 2012 was the year of rage. In no other year did I see so much fanboy outcry about so many things. Yes, even this reporter was a sinner who gave into the rage (though thankfully not as bad as I did in 2011). Regardless, no matter what rage made fanboys react in the most absurd and eventually humorous ways, only one moment can truly spark so much ire as to be named Most Maddening Moment of the Year.

The Outhouse has obtained exclusive video of the reaction of most fanboys to this moment:

Yes, it's a rage so pure that it crossed not only worlds, but heaven and hell, and time itself. In fact, after several weeks, one can still hear the anguished cries of fans, which will likely continue well into 2013. Ironically, with only one week left of 2012 one moment jumped forward over all other moments to win. Yes, I speak of the one and only..

Peter Parker dies in Doc Ock's body, while Ock in Peter's swears to the recently departed he'll be a superior Spider-Man. - Amazing Spider-Man #700

It tickles this reporter somewhat that Dan Slott pulled off the rare trick of winning both best moment of the year and most hated. Honestly, if an author is creating both emotions in readers, doesn't that alone mean he's doing his job as a writer? Anyway, unlike Moment of the Year, Mister Slott had this to say of attaining the award:

“Yes. Remember how b*t-sh*t crazy Zechs got with the surprise we pulled on him with the Hobgoblin, Outhousers? All you guys freaking out over #700 right now? YOU'RE ALL THE NEW ZECHS! “

I have to confess, the man is right. Again, no matter how many times I have to apologize to Slott, I will, because I over-reacted to him “killing” a fan favorite character of mine in Roderick Kingsley, the original Hobgoblin, who as it turns out this year, wasn't so dead to begin with.

It's why I find it all the more humorous and why I really am not angry at Amazing Spider-Man #700. Quite the contrary, I cannot wait to see what Slott has in store for us in Superior Spider-Man. After all, he still has numerous plots he never wrapped up in Amazing, and no doubt he'll continue them here. Regardless, I hope Slott teases the hell out of you all as he did me (and rightfully so). Given the preview of Superior Spider-Man #1 I'd say he's off to a great start. So go ahead and rage because this is what Dan Slott will be doing:

And with that, I leave you because really how can I top the mental image of Dan Slott in the Emperor's throne encouraging you all to let loose with that hate. Here's to 2013 to be light on the anger (it probably won't)! Other than that, it's good to be me. After all, you're all ME.
