WARNING, THERE BE SPOILERS BELOW!
“Serves her right, she died because of her own stupidity.”
“Ding dong, the dumb bitch is dead!”
“That’s what you get for sucking.”
“Should have slashed the fucking tires.”
“Good, I hated her.”
Admit it, some variation of the above ran through your head last night as the prayers of all The Walking Dead (TV) fans were answered as Andrea finally died. What you have to ask yourself is; “What does this say about me?” The answer is simple and obvious: you hate women, especially strong independent women. There is no way around it, fans reactions to the death of Lori and Andrea not only show that Robert Kirkman and the entirety of the AMC network are sexist misogynists, but so are the millions of people who watch the hit television show week after week.
Think about it, who is your favorite female character on The Walking Dead? Michone? Carol Peletier? Maggie or Beth Greene? What do these women have in common; they have either taken on traditional masculine roles, or are submissive characters that take care of the baby, laundry, and other housekeeping chores.
Michonne – Badass with a phallic sword
Carol – Usually seen with a pile of dirty clothes near her while comforting the men around her with motherly advice
Maggie – Doting daughter who manned up to fight the Governor
Beth – Minor babysitter who has yet to have an original thought
And yet, Lori and Andrea both left the show to the cheers of fans everywhere. Now, some of you might be saying to yourself:
Yea, but they sucked and disserved to die, especially Andrea. I mean, c’mon, the stupid cow didn’t even have the foresight to steal or at least disable the Governor’s truck. What the hell was up with that? And, what was with all the jibber-jabber in the tombs? I tested myself last night and I was able to talk AND grab something with my foot at the same time and she sits there knowing he’s about to turn with her thumb up her butt chit-chatting! Women!
(Note: I really did try to pick up some pliers with my toes.)
Your suggestion that stupidity and lack of foresight in the face of the zombie apocalypse is a reason to cheer a female character’s death is in itself sexist and the fact that Andrea never made a good decision in the entire time we knew her is proof that AMC has an anti women agenda. Don’t believe me; do you like either of the main female characters on Breaking Bad? Besides the sultry, and slutty, Joan Harris (mmmm, Christina Hendricks) are there any non-annoying strong women on Mad Men?
The death of Andrea, no matter how disserved, further highlights the depths to which we have fallen as a society. Just ten years ago no one would have ever made a female character this unlikeable only to kill her off due to her own idiocy for fear of upsetting the white knight brigade. Nowadays, no one bats an eye when a female, ethnic minority, or even a homosexual is portrayed as a bad person, moron, or is just plain unlikeable.
What have we come to when television, books, comics, movies, and all other forms of entertainment are permitted to treat non-white males as if they are real people who can have flaws that are not commentaries on an entire gender/race/sexual orientation? Using mass media as a vehicle to portray minorities as having the same flaws as white men is just one of the reasons Rome fell and we must be vigilant that we do not allow this kind of hate filled bile does not infect other networks lest we fall down the same rabbit hole.

RU, or as he’s known in the writers’ room: the cute one, is relatively unappreciated in his time. RU’s YouTube show, RUviews is watched by literally multiple people every month and his Outhouse articles have helped line many a bird cage. Before you send RU a message, he knows that there are misspelled words in this article, and probably in this bio he was asked to write. RU wants everyone to know that after 25+ years of collecting he still loves comic books and can’t believe how seriously fanboys take them. RU lives in Akron Ohio (unfortunately) with WIFE, ‘lilRuRu, and the @DogGodThor. You can also find him on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, & even Google+ (if anyone still uses that).
