Character Spotlight: Chico Bustamante

This article will only hope to heighten the legend of this Indy character.

In an Internet filled with overwhelming negativity and pointless hatred of frivolous stuff, it's sometimes necessary to take a step back, take a deep breath and remember why we enjoy comics in the first place. Character Spotlight is a weekly feature showcasing some of the Outhouse's favorite characters that epitomize why we read comics. Maybe you'll learn something, maybe you won't, but regardless we hope you enjoy the Outhouse's Character Spotlight!

-Chico Bustamante-

Everyone knows American folklore and legend. John Henry. Paul Bunyan. Anne Oakley. Well, Chico Bustamante wants to be every bit as legendary as these heroes of lore, so he sets out to do just that! Of course, as for any hero, there are challenges Chico must battle in his home town of Pantalones, Tx.

Character Appeal:

One part Scott Pilgrim, the other Looney Tunes is the world Chico Bustamante runs in. Pantalones, Tx is a book for all ages. Chico's got a colorful supporting cast of characters around him. My personal favorites are Pig Head (the name says it all) and Sheriff Cornwallis (a homage to Sheriff Buford T. Justice who drives, well you have to read it to believe it).

As for the man who aspires to be legend himself? Chico is a character whose desire is to pull off the stunt of the century, and how he goes about accomplishing it is entertaining to watch and behold.

Top Story-lines:

Pantalones, Tx: Don't Chicken Out- Though it's only one tale so far, the legend that is Chico Bustamante is forged in this book as it builds on the world and characters around him. Chico's main goal is to attempt to ride the Sheriff's King Kong-sized chicken. Does he accomplish it? Well, that'd be spoiling. GO READ IT!!!

Chico Bustamante Can Even Beat Superman:

Chico would challenge Superman to a race around the Earth. Superman on foot, Chico in the go-kart. And then, while Superman was busy running, Chico would sneak in to the Fortress of Solitude and use the crystal chamber to give him Superman powers. Then he'd give Superman a super wedgie. Defeated!*

Where the Character is Today:

While his first book is over, your pal Zechs can exclusively reveal that Chico Bustamante WILL RETURN in an animated short film: Pantalones, TX: Ghost Town & Down . Here is the official animatic of the video in which Chico must team-up with his arch-nemesis, Sheriff Cornwallis, to save the town of Pantalones from a gang of ghosts:

Also, Chico will be starring in special one-shot Halloween Ashcan for Diamond to be given away at comic shops on Halloween. It'll be called Pantalones, TX: Zombinata!!! And here's your first look at it's cover:

As for who will be shown the spotlight for Character Spotlight next? GODZILLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Thank you so much to Chico's creator, Yehudi Mercado, for writing the small blurb on how Chico could take down the Man of Steel.
