C2E2 Interview: Tom Stillwell and Jessica Lynn Talk 'Fangirl'

Zechs talks to both creators about their Kickstarter graphic novel: Fangirl!!!

At C2E2 this year, this reporter was able to get the time of not one, but TWO creators: Tom Stillwell (writer of Honor Bridgade & Toy Boy, Underneath) and Jessica Lynn (this is her first printed comic, but has her own web comic called Airica), for their comic "Fangirl," which is a graphic novel currently looking for funding for release on Kickstarter.

They graced me with a fantastic seven minute interview to discuss why they put the project on Kickstarter, various collaborators on the book, and the story. "It's a mash-up of Scooby Doo meets Veronica Mars, It's about a fangirl who goes to to the big San Diego Convention  (Writer's Note: not THE SDCC, just one that's like it given SDCC owns the trademark to that) to meet her guild-mates, but watches a corrupt cop kill somebody. So the only thing they can think of is to hide in the convention from the bad guys."

Given the nature of a graphic novel being about an entire comic con, I had no doubt designs would be fun, and Lynn confirmed that. "Well for me, since I've been doing comic con for the past five years or so, it was really really fun to go around and find different ways to get that stuff in the book and the fans in the book "  Which leads into the next question for both on how they dodged copy-righted/trademark product given it's EVERYWHERE at cons. "For example instead of Attack on Titan, it's Assault on Saturn. You couldn't say SDCC, it's the San Diego Convention, but we never say it by name." For more of the interview, watch the video above.

If you're hungry for more than just the images below, and looking for more information on the project, here's the Facebook page Tom talked about in the video. Again, if you want to help fund the Fangirl Kickstarter, go here and do so quickly!  As of this article, there are only fifteen days left for it!!
