THE PROFESSOR'S HOLIDAY PICKS!!!

Alias Omnibus

Alias.jpg

With this series debut November 20th, I have a feeling Brian Michael Bendis's fascinating run on Alias will be on the wish list of many comic book fans. Out of print for several years, the Netflix series seems to be garnering a renewed interest in Jessica Jones and her career as a private eye. Admittedly, I've only ever been able to track down book one so I'm looking forward to picking this up and reading it over the holidays.

Coyote Pop Geek Fashion Hoodies

CoyotePop.jpg

I've always wanted one of these bad boys but dang they are expensive! With the holidays around the corner maybe someone in my family will splurge and then I can rock a hooded sweatshirt and run around pretending I'm Batman or the Winter Soldier. I mean, I do that anyway but it will be slightly less weird in public, amirite? This company only releases limited edition runs and seems to sell out really fast so it might be the kind of thing you need to plan ahead to secure for the holidays. Or just beat up someone who already owns one and claim it for your own.

Cthulhu Beer Stein.

cthulhu-steins-640.jpg

Because, Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn! I love drinking beer but hate that I can't express my love of dark ancient evil at the same time. This fixes that problem. I wish I was drinking from it right now while awaiting the darkness to consume all of the meaningless speck we call earth. Praise him. Unfortunately this item does not come with Baneful Dust of Hermes Trismegistus so you will have to bring your own. Fun at parties!

Full color or dynamic wash steins for $70, and topless full color or dynamic wash mugs for $40

Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye Box Set

MTMTE1_cvrE.jpg

The complete "first season" of the best giant robot comic ever. Rodimus leads a crew of misfits aboard the starship the Lost Light in search of the legendary Knights of Cybertron. At least, that's what the publisher's blurb says. In reality, this is a series about a group of individuals suffering from severe post-traumatic stress disorder trying (and failing) to live something akin to a normal life. IN SPACE! Alternatively funny, horrifying, and heartbreaking, this makes a great gift for a Transformers fan, or a fan of comics in general.

Transformers Combiner Wars Devastator

transformers6.jpeg

The recent Combiner Wars toyline has brought fans some really excellent figures, but it reached its apex with Devastator. Six Voyager class robots that combine into 18" of pure devastation. The individual team members all look fantastic, even if they are a bit simplistic for the size class, but their combined form is a thing of beauty. A must have for giant robot fans.

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Xenoblade-Chronicles-X.png

This is the Wii U game I've been waiting on for two years. Or maybe my whole life! :D Help the survivors of Earth find a new home on a brave new world by exploring the planet Mira. It's a massive open world that takes place over five continents. If you put in the time (about thirty hours), you even get your very own giant robot. That's the dream, people.

If the game is ANYTHING like the original Xenoblade Chronicles (originally for the Wii and now available on the 3DS), then this is the game to play this holiday season.

Combiner Wars Protectobots

Defensor.jpg

When I was a kid, the only Transformers combiner team that I was able to complete was the Protectobots. They were shelf warmers. For some reason. This team was made up of a fire truck, motorcycle, police car, helicopter, and an ambulance. That is pretty cool.

The new group has all those guys as well as a newcomer that turns into a SWAT truck. The group still comes together to form the super-robot, Defensor, but he's a hundred times more awesome. Highly recommended.

Ant-Man

AntMan.jpg

I know, I know. You've got two Marvel movies to choose from this year and you can only buy one. What's it gonna be? Avengers: Age of Ultron or Ant-Man?

Well, you know my choice because I already told you what it was. Get Ant-Man. It's a fun movie.

And, really, if you don't have it already, just get Guardians of the Galaxy. That movie is great.

Intersect Volume 1

intersect.png

I reviewed this book last year, and gave the first few single issues a mostly negative review. When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong. If you can read a physical copy of the entire volume in one sitting, then you will not be disappointed. The overall effect is moody psychological terror that keeps you thinking for days and achingly beautiful artwork that makes your daily life dull by comparison.

Death Wish Coffee

DeathWishCoffee.jpg

As recommended by several comics professionals during a Baltimore Comic Con, Death Wish is the strongest most caffeinated coffee you can find. Plus it's cage-free/fair-trade/organic so everyone will be impressed by your social awareness. If you're looking for the best method to brew, Amy Chu recommends an aeropress to help remove any bitterness.

BB-8 Star Wars Ornament

uhhh... This is the droid that everyone is looking for, right? I dunno, this seems like a no brainer. Buy this ornament to commemorate your hope and dreams for the new movie and your love for this little droid before we find out that he's secretly a container for Jar-Jar's brain.

Legends of Cthulhu - '12 Inch Cthulhu

WRP10003.jpg

For the one in us who want to worship our dark elder god. From the makers who gave us the amazing '3 Inch Legends of Cthulhu series comes this beast that just looks amazing and would be an amazing add to any fan of the Lovecraftian god.

S.H. MonsterArts - Godzilla 1964 (Emergence of Godzilla)

BAN16417.jpg

A variant of the Godzilla vs. Mothra version of Big G. This one captures his dramatic out of nowhere entrance in the movie. Like the previous version, this is an amazing mold and the better reason this is superior to the previous: accessories! This one comes with a radioactive blast so it can reign unholy destruction on moths and humans everywhere.

Justified- The Complete Series

71zHEqxdXFL._SL1500_.jpg

Does every TV series just seem utterly disappointing as it winds down to finish (i.e. Dexter, Sons of Anarchy)? Well have I got a series for you! If you've never watched this series that originally aired on FX, then here's your chance to own the entire thing. Six glorious seasons of Deputy Marshal Raylan Givens (played to cool bad ass perfection Timothy Olyphant) and the various crooks (the biggest is scene-chewing Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder) he's got to deal with. The series is just an amazing ride from start to finish with some mighty fine character arcs.

Add some great one-shot characters who also appear throughout the series, and you just have quite possibly one of the rare type of series that was as good if not better when it ended.

ART BOOKS

I love art books so every year I recommend art books. There's a small movie opening this year which also has an art book coming along with it.

StarWarsArtBook.jpg

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18, and on the same day The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (published by Harry N. Abrams) will hit the stores. While I haven't seen the contents of the book, the previous books all contained great content.

Abrams Books

Only What's Necessary: Charles M. Schulz and the Art of Peanuts published by Harry N. Abrams.

CharlesSchulzArtBook.jpg

Peanuts is celebrating 65 years this year and this art book provides a look at some previously unreleased art from the series in a nicely designed package from Chip Kidd. For fans of Peanuts, cartoon art, or history in general.

GAMES/TOYS

For the few of you that own a Wii U, celebrate Mario's 30th anniversary by creating your own levels with Super Mario Maker, published by Nintendo of course.

SuperMarioMaker.jpg

Aside from Splatoon (which is also a must buy but depends largely on playing with others over the internet), Super Mario Maker is probably the game getting the most push from Nintendo this year. You can create your own stages using many of the elements from Super Mario's history in a few different Mario art styles. You can share your levels and play other people's levels too.

Did I mention that Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens this year?

bb8remote.jpg

One of the early breakout stars from the movie is the adorable droid BB-8. Now you can own a tiny version of the character based on the same technology that brought the little guy to life on the big screen from the company that developed that technology, Sphero with the Sphero BB-8 App-Enabled Droid. Control BB-8 with an app on your phone or tablet and save the galaxy.

Batgirl Black and White Statue Color Variant

Batgirl.jpg

Cameron Stewart recently gave Barbara Gordon a revolutionary reboot, updating her character for the 21st century. It was so successful that editors at DC now refer to making major changes to a charactor or book as "Batgirling" or say things like "We need to Batgirl this book". Despite the revamped Batgirl's popularity, there isn't much merchandise with her new look. Just the beautiful statue from the Black & White series. It's a fantastic sculpt based on the art on Batgirl's character design sheet. The Black & White statue looks good, but the hand painted color variant looks stunning! A perfect gift for the modern Batgirl fan.

List Price: $124.99

Available at Amazon.com and comic book stores that don't suck.

And that's our show for you today.  Thanks for sticking around to the end and I hope we helped you buy that gift for that special person on your list.  Have a happy and safe holiday season and stayed tuned to the Outhouse for all your geek and snark needs.

About the Author - SuperginraiX

SuperginraiX is the biggest sap on The Outhousers' payroll (wait, we get paid?). He reads every issue of every crappy Marvel crossover so you don't have to. Whats worse is that he pays for his books, thus condoning Marvel's behavior. If The Outhouse cared for his well being at all, they'd try and get him into some sort of rehab center. But, alas, none of us even know how to say his name. For a good time, ask Super why Captian America jumped off the Helicarrier in Fear Itself. Super lives in the frozen wastland that is Minnesota with 15% of the state's population living under his roof: a wife he makes wear an Optimus Prime mask, two gremlins, and his mother-in-law.
