Truly this year was a one-horse race. I think we all knew which particular moment in comics was going to win. The only questions was just I had where: How much would it win by? What would be close competition to it? What the other competition was going to be? With 279 votes in total, I got my answer.
At #5 Coming in with 19 votes was a moment from last year at this exact time, "You aren't a monster, that's what they tried to make you. But it didn't work. You are a hero. Because that's the path you took yourself." aka Cassandra gets her much needed hug. - Batman & Robin Eternal #13. Honestly, of that entire mini, that was probably the best moment out of all of it. Next month, artist Marcio Takara and writer James Tynion IV will be reunited in another Cassandra Cain-centric story with Detective Comics #950. Will more feels be had?! I do believe given how much Cassandra Cain is always in these moment of the year polls for the last few years that many of you are also fans of her like I am. Goddammit DC give her a ongoing series again.
With a single vote between sandwiching it between above's moment and the next is the #4 moment with Diana protects the family from gunfire by deflecting the bullets. Wonder Woman #10 with 20 votes. Given that it was one that emerged as Winner of the Month of November you can expect to see it again at the very top for it's second chance at winning this year's poll.
Given I already spoiled that entry only got ahead by a single vote is also our only talk of Marvel. Every other moment Marvel had in this barely even scratched the upper teens. Unsurprisingly, it was from the final time we saw Reed, Sue Richards, along with the FF. Yes, Whatever the hell big thing that happened in Secret Wars that was so big that it apparently justified its own g*ddamn extra issue, I guess. Apparently it involves Reed Richards? I dunno, I'm just exhausted. - Secret Wars #9 came in at #3 with 21 votes.
So what moment gave the winner a fit? Well, our #2 moment really didn't. It was only voted with 24 votes and that of course being that low there was no chance for it to begin with. That's right, it is that far a gap between our #2 and #1 moments. But then again, I think we all knew which moment was going to win. I'm just kind of surprised in the end, because again it's DC and again freaking James Tynion IV. Seriously, for all the slack people might give him. The man had TWO freaking moments that were in the top five. THE TOP FIVE! He's out flanked both head Batman writers Scott Snyder and Tom King. How does he do that?! Because, he hits us in the feels just like he did with the runner-up: Tim Drake's Last Stand/Stephanie & Bruce grieve over Tim. - Detective Comics #940.
That said with over freaking 55 votes. Yes, 55 VOTES! That means even combining the previous two entries TOGETHER meant neither still had a chance against it. Yeah... that is just amazing given last year it was a heated exchange in the twenties. This year? NO OTHER MOMENT had a freaking shot against this one. None. What was that moment? Again, with 55 votes YOUR WINNER of Moment of the Year 2016 is... GIVE ME THAT EPIC DRUM ROLL!!!
