Nightfly lists his preferred picks from the previous week of primetime programming.

TV Week in Review (week of 7/24/11)

This past week offered up a few surprises. ABC-Family and Syfy made strong showings in the hour-long Scripted category, while, Disney and the History Channel reclaimed (sectional) Top Spot dominance that'd eluded them both for numerous weeks. Worthy of note, only one Summer Sitcom (out of five) honored this week stars someone beyond their twenties; it was a really good week for teen shows. Lastly, Mortal Kombat: Legacy stormed back onto my column this week with its long-awaited finale webisode finally released after being premiered at SDCC.
Tonight (Sun 7/31) Lifetime debuts its new original series Against the Wall starring Rachael Carpani, and, G4 airs the third season premiere of American Ninja Warrior once again featuring Alison Haislip as sideline correspondent. The Real L Word, Unique Eats, and Unique Sweets are all reportedly airing their season finales tonite (7/31).

Well, talk about your full-time lifestyle,... this week I watched a whopping forty-four hours of (primetime) programming to compile this column and that's not even counting the chat shows, news shows, or cartoons that debuted last week. From that massive pool viewed, the dramas that almost made my vaunted Scripted List were Leverage, Torchwood: Miracle Day (Eve Myles appears especially posh in this one), White Collar, Teen Wolf and The Closer. The summer comedies closest to being honored in my Summer Sictoms section included Hot in Cleveland, Happily Divorced, A.N.T. Farm, and The Looney Tunes Show! UnSung, Celebrity Close Calls, My Yard Goes Disney, Gordon Ramsay's Great Escape, and HGTV Design Star came nearest to making my Reality Shows list.
Lately there's been enough entertaining guest stars to merit honorable mentions and that trend held again this week. I may very well be wrong, I hope I am, but I'm still under the impression that Felicia Day hasn't become a series regular yet on Eureka... as such I'm still considering her a Guest Star of the Week candidate - which she was this past week once again. Jennifer Love Hewitt also delivered a sweet 'n amusing guest shot on Hot in Cleveland putting her in very hot competition for this week's honor.

If you haven't made it out to see Captain America: The First Avenger yet you might not've caught this early teaser trailer for The Avengers (connected to Cap's end credits).

Cowboys & Aliens hit theaters this weekend as did The Smurfs in 3D! Both look like feasts for the eyes. Speaking of... I thought some of you might enjoy this pic of the Outhouse's Hot 99 of 2010 co-Babe of the Year, Katy Perry (the bigscreen voice of Smurfette) on the blue carpet at The Smurfs in 3D premiere.

Also, if you haven't seen the trailer for Battleship yet you really need to check it out. Reactions seemingly run strong both positively and negatively, personally I can't wait to see it!

Don't forget to stay cool & hydrated and to take care of yourself during these dog days. August is perennially my least favorite month of the year, weather wise. A few shows are premiering or airing finales this upcoming week but it looks to be a mostly quiet week over all. Thanks as always for reading my column. It's very encouraging to enjoy the support of so many cool folks participating in my polls, playing along with my Trivia Question of the Week, or just reading my column on a regular basis. It means a lot to me. I hope you all have a great week,... Be Well & Happy Viewing.
