Nightfly's TV Week in Review 10/16/11 - Supernatural, 2 Broke Girls, and more!

Nightfly lists his preferred picks from the previous week of primetime TV and the world of entertainment.

TV Week in Review
(week of 10/16/11)

CBS delivered a really strong slate of shows during a week where everyone else apparently got a memo to run repeats. CBS owned fifty-seven percent of my Outstanding Sitcoms category (2 Broke Girls tops that list for the very first time), and, (along with the CW) was one of only two nets to garner double placement on my hour-long Scripted List. Kudos also go to The History Channel for being the only network to earn a second slot on my Reality Shows list, one of those two being the Top slot; interestingly, Ancient Aliens has topped my Reality Shows list three of the last four weeks. No doubt my most shocking selection involved the CW's Supernatural. While I admit to previously never having seen a full episode, it's a no brainer that Charisma & James' first onscreen reunion since Angel would top my list. Somebody needs to give those two their own show. I was especially happy the producers made sure the episode was newbie-friendly.
Speaking of Angel, I watched David Greenwalt's pilot for Grimm this past week and was totally blown away by it. If you haven't seen it yet make sure to catch its Friday premiere (10/28) on NBC. Also brightening this upcoming week is the triumphant return of Beavis & Butt-Head! Lake Titicaca will be referenced. (hehe) Don't miss the comedy event of the week this Thursday (10/27) @ 10p.
Folks who track web series (something I'm not the best at) know there are several awesome web series I've never mentioned or featured in my column. FTR, one of my web series rules is that honorees - in general - release one episode per week. I mention it because VEVO has an interesting web series going now called Tim Timebomb's ROCKNROLL THEATER, but just this (debut) week it released five episodes. My (so-called) 'announcement' comes also with a bit of a confession. My plan was to launch a new music video column this week to compliment my TV WiR and free me to link only the music winner(s) here. The plan is to cover the broader spectrum of music video releases in the new column. However, since this week lacked a Teen Shows section, I figured I'd inform you of my plans now and make this the last column to sport fifteen-plus music video links. Even without including recent GetGlue links, my music links have numbered at least fifteen or more lately convincing me the subject needs its own column. So starting next week, along with my TV Week in Review, I'll publish a music video column spotlighting (i.e., embedding) at least 11-14 videos per week. Coincidentally, this column brings the second consecutive week Kelly Rowland's released a new video. This WiR also features the second video in three weeks from Beyoncé and Bombay Bicycle Club (respectively). Jessie J appeared in a second video released last week that I unfortunately missed - had I known of it she would've been feautured in last week's column twice.
Once Upon a Time debuts tonight on ABC, definitely one of this week's can't-miss series premieres.
Now let's truck onto my favorite shows, webisodes, and music videos from last week...

Though I missed a couple shows I'd intended to watch, I still watched a total of forty-one hours of TV to compile this column (down from forty-seven last week). From a pool of twenty-eight hour-long contenders, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, Hart of Dixie, Ringer and Pan Am most deserve honorable mentions. My sitcom honorable mentions number only three this week; How I Met Your Mother and both episodes of Reed Between the Lines. The only three reality shows I watched that didn't earn place on my list were Top Chef: Just Desserts, Project Runway and After The Runway.
As mentioned earlier, there were no teen shows [that I usually watch] to choose from this past week, not even The Clone Wars. I know multiple teen series are returning this week so you can expect my Favorite Teen Shows category to return soon enough.
Thesps in competition for my Guest Star of the Week honor (and not featured as Runners Up) included Diane Neal (on NCIS), Gage Golightly (on Ringer), Tom Sizemore (on Hawaii Five-O) and Dina Meyer (on Charlie's Angels). Though only onscreen for a brief scene, I was very pleased to see William Forsythe guest on last week's Boardwalk Empire - he's one of my most favorite actors.

So, about Enlightened... it still doesn't fit into my list system well, however, as long as it keeps impressing me I'll keep giving it love here. Watch the captivating [TV-MA] clip below to see why I liked the second episode even better than the pilot.
Ep.2 - Inside the Episode

Some cool Marvel stickers still available at GetGlue include Spider-Island & X-Men (anime) on G4, both grabbed by my bro Friday night. This past week I scored the Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited (offering a bonus 30% discount on subscription) sticker & a cool Michael Westen sticker for Burn Notice's tpb, Burn Notice: A New Day. Just today I got stickers for checking-in to The Avengers & Dum Dum Dugan.
When you check-in to Once Upon a Time's premiere tonight, claim this extra Ginnifer Goodwin sticker by adding the text "Yahoo! TV." Two other stickers promoting upcoming TV premieres are Monster In-Laws (debuting tomorrow, 10/24) and The Next Iron Chef (premiering Sunday, 10/30). UK viewers eager for the third series of Misfits (on Channel E4) have only to wait till 10/30. Catherine Bell fans will want to score the Coming Soon sticker for Hallmark's The Good Witch's Family (premiering Saturday 10/29).
Regarding new dvd releases, stickers for Monte Carlo (starring Selena Gomez) & Bad Teacher (starring Cameron Diaz), to name just two, are currently available. Two movies offering stickers presently are Anonymous & The Rum Diary (both premiering Friday 10/28).

The second official trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was released last Wednesday. Check it out below then read more about it here. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens December 16th, 2011.

I couldn't close out this column without sharing this outrageous sneak peek of Beavis & Butt-Head's reboot-premiere. Prepare to be entertained.

Tonight I'm really looking forward to the new TWD aftershow Talking Dead, and, make sure not to miss the series premiere of Once Upon a Time. Until next week, Be Well & Happy Viewing.
