Nightfly lists his preferred picks from primetime TV and the world of entertainment.

TV Week in Review  (week of 11/13/11)

Another winningly competitive week of TV resulted in another highly up for grabs hour-long scripted list. Nikita & Boardwalk Empire are the only dramas returning to my main list from the previous week. Private Practice stands as the big-three's only representative on this week's hour-long list, while, the CW (once again) lands two spots on my main scripted list - the only network to do so this week. Compiling my Favorite Teen Shows list was fun last week as every show competing in that category served up excellent installments. For a second consecutive week the Disney Channel is the only network to score more than a single slot on my teen shows list; FOX was the only net to land twice on my Outstanding Sitcoms list. HBO's hilariously irreverent Bored to Death bests the rest for the first time since last November, largely due to the guest appearance of Casey Wilson.
No network earned a second slot on my Reality Shows list, though, History Channel's Ancient Aliens returns to the top of that list for the first time in over a month.
Fans of NBC's The Voice should be happy to see lovely & demure Dia Frampton as co-winner of my Music Video of the Week honor; this column's music video section also features a (single) runner up my readers will likely value. Lots of videos were released last week so if you miss the days when my WiR highlighted many music videos each week, I encourage you to read my music video column. GetGlue members needn't worry,... any music related glue I learn about will always be mentioned here as well as in my music column.
Primetime TV will shift into a lower gear again this upcoming week as numerous shows take mid-season breaks or step aside for holiday programming. As this Thanksgiving week is so much about family, consider spending some family time with your old friends, The Muppets (in theaters Nov. 23rd). There are multiple GG stickers for The Muppets available for watching the trailer there - here's the most recent one for Walter!

This time around I up'd my total hours watched from fifty-two to fifty-four, but since House never went up OnDemand I ultimately logged one less hour-long drama watched. Of the scripted dramas screened, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, Bones, Once Upon A Time, and the concluding half of a NCIS two-parter all barely missed my hour-long list. Teen shows falling just short (in this highly competitive week), and the totality of all teen shows watched, includes The Looney Tunes Show, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and A.N.T. Farm. Even more fiercely competitive than the Teen Shows category was this column's Outstanding Sitcoms section. Riding the sitcoms bench are comedies Beavis & Butt-Head, Good Luck Charlie, Happy Endings, Raising Hope, and, How I Met Your Mother. Reality shows deserving honorable mentions were Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan, American Chopper: Sr. vs. Jr., Brad Meltzer's Decoded, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Project Accessory, and, Top Chef: Texas.
Guest stars in contention for this entry's Guest Star of the Week title included Angela Sarafyan (on Nikita), Justin Long (on New Girl), Mary Steenburgen (on Bored to Death), Michael Rooker (on The Walking Dead) and Debby Ryan (on Private Practice).

Though Psych placed twenty-eighth (of thirty-two) on my hour-long scripted list, it still entertained me enough that honoring my pledge to avengingtitan (to highlight each new episode of Psych) comes as a pleasure, not a chore. Series co-star Tim Omundson tweeted the factoid that Brad Dourif, last week's guest star, was the seventh of his former Deadwood castmates to guest on Psych. One of those seven was this WiR's Guest Star of the Week honoree, Jim Beaver!
Brad Dourif & James Roday in "Shawn Interrupted"

Ranking sixteenth out of thirty-two last week was the last episode for awhile from Fringe. I don't always include Fringe in WiR columns it doesn't list, but in this case a combination of two factors led me to still feature it. Firstly, it's a solid episode that merely suffered the misfortune of overly awesome competitors, and secondly, because I'm unhappy that there won't be new episodes until January 2012. Below is the glyph code for last week's poignant episode, "Wallflower."

Last week's most captivating new movie preview (to me) was Lionsgate's official trailer for The Hunger Games. Check out its engaging trailer below then watch it again at GetGlue for its flaming logo sticker.

Fans hungry for more The Avengers promos were treated to eight new character posters released last week as two large [four-characters each] banners. In the one I'd like to hang on my wall (below) Scarlett Johansson displays her scream-worthy 'lovely lady hump' as Black Widow (a.k.a. Natasha Romanoff). Thanks to fellow GG guru Fidel J. for bringing the news of these new posters to my attention.

Before closing out this installment I want to brief you about a few new stickers Marvel started offering at GetGlue last week: Generation Hope, Amazing Spider-Man, and one celebrating Captain America's search for new team members as he begins assembling an all-new lineup of Avengers.

Ongoing loyal readers, like you, are the biggest reason why I write these two columns here. I greatly appreciate and couldn't be more grateful for your following my commentary each week, your votes in my weekly polls and your attempts to answer my trivia questions. Trivia Champ avangingtitan has added his lists of favorite shows to the comments section the last few weeks - I sincerely thank him for that and encourage more readers to do the same (feel free to embed videos to go with your lists too).

Until next time, Be Well & Happy Viewing! And don't forget to watch the premiere of The Muppets 11/23 at a theater near you!!

P.S. My all-time favorite Thanksgiving episode of any show ever.
