The Outhouse: What exactly is WOWIO.com and how did it to come to life?

Brett Burner: WOWIO is a revolutionary online bookstore dedicated to providing consumers with free, downloadable books through the use of paid, targeted advertising opportunities.

WOWIO’s “Free Books + Free Minds” concept is the brainchild of author, entrepreneur and comic book nut Will Lidwell. He developed the concept a couple of years ago while contemplating solutions for the high price of college textbooks. Lidwell realized the approach could be generalized to include all content, not just textbooks.

Outhouse: What comic book publishers are offering books through WOWIO.com?

Burner: We are currently featuring a large number of titles of titles from Alias Comics (with such popular titles as Lullaby and The Imaginaries) and Markosia (featuring Abiding Perdition, Shadowmancer, and Starship Troopers). We are also featuring a number of other independents such as Angel Gate, Heroic, and Moonstone, with titles coming in soon from Arcana and Antarctic Press, among other smaller indies.

Outhouse: Are there any books or comic book titles that you really want to have on WOWIO.com?

Burner: EVERYBODY! Though our primary goal is to be sure we are maintaining a high quality of books, most popular comic publishers are producing books that readers will enjoy. Of course, we would like to get some big names on there… Not much imagination is needed to know we would like the big two, along with popular top 10 and 20 publishers and manga publishers (whose readers are an obvious fit to online viewing).

Outhouse: Since WOWIO.com also has books to download, any you would recommend to comic book fans? Any comic books you would recommend to people who are solely interested in books?

Burner: A) WOWIO offers some of the most famous works in the history of the written word. Classic books such as Wuthering Heights and Frankenstein, fiction and non-fiction paragons like High Sierra and The Prince are user favorites. More contemporary reads like Susan Sontag’s seminal On Photography are available. One of WOWIO’s latest offerings is a book about a soldier’s experience in the Iraq War titled One Weekend A Month.

B) Books like Deal with the Devil and Dark Mists are great for people who might want to experiment with the transition between books and comics. Other adventures include Black Tide, Lullaby, Imaginaries, Abiding Perdition and Shadowmancer. For comedy, try Chrono Mechanics, of for kids, Pakkins Land. People that like biblical content will appreciate Daniel: Prophet of Dreams, God’s Love Is Like A Conjoined Twin and Open Your Heart When They Hate Your Guts.

Outhouse: Finish this statement if you would please: People at the Outhouse should sign up for WOWIO.com because…

Burner: The books are free.

Outhouse: Now for a silly question; duck, duck, or goose?

Burner: GOOSE, man! GOOSE! (Or duck. The second one. Not the first one.)

Outhouse: Anything else you want to bring up?

Burner: WOWIO has to be great. The King of All Media and #1 comics fan Howard Stern recently endorsed WOWIO on his show!!
