Nightfly's Music Video Week in Review 2/26/12 - Dead Letter Circus, Jennifer Hudson and more

Nightfly lists his preferred picks among last week's newly released music videos.

Chasing The Matrix:
Nightfly's Music Video Week in Review  (week of 2/26/12)

This column's crop of tunes comes overwhelmingly from VEVO due to a dramatic drop off from MTV as compared to previous weeks. CMT still delivered a couple but they too released fewer new videos then I've recently come to expect. Helping bridge the gap were three bands that released multiple videos on the same (different) days. Periphery put out two clips (on 2/25) the day after Angel released three (on 2/24) followed by Dead Letter Circus (a group I'd not previously heard of) dropping a full five videos Monday (2/27). For those tracking the dates, you're right that Angel's vids are actually make-up catches from the week before last. Charmingly adorkable Zooey Deschanel appears twice in this entry, once out of competition and again in one of this week's tied faves guesting alongside her She & Him partner, Matt Ward.

Speaking of Zooey D., you might remember I posted the news of a choose-the-path video for New Girl's theme song, "Hey Girl," last month.  Though made and first posted last month, New Girl's twitter account last week tweeted Hannah Simone's chosen-path video you can screen by clicking the song's title in the last sentence. I initially planned to embed said theme video here but instead thought I'd share one Zooey'd surely love. Released Friday (3/2) by Johnny Neon (via Vimeo), this video titled, "Hearts," was shot by rescue dog 'Lemon.' Read more about it here.

Last week my column's sole Runner Up was the artistic video, "Cheerleader" by St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark). Annie recently sat down with Jian Ghomeshi for a thoughtfully revealing interview about her latest album, "Strange Mercy," for his web series, Q.

Q with Jian Ghomeshi - "St. Vincent's Annie Clark in Studio Q"  [Runtime: 23:31]  {released 3/1 via blip}

Music related stickers I unlocked last week at GetGlue included new ones for Miranda Lambert's latest video, "Over You," and upcoming tour - as well as glue for Demi Lovato's latest album "Unbroken," and, Alexis Jordan's 2010 hit single "Happiness."

Before launching into last week's highlighted new releases, I figured fellow Country fans might want to check out this list of new artists from CMT, just in case you haven't seen it already. 11 Fresh New Artists in Country Music.

Bonus Videos:
Believing it's never "too soon" to laugh, this group of funny ladies eulogize the late, great Whitney Houston in this clip in which they share their favorite memories about her music and influence in their personal lives.

And last but not least, both stars of Disney's popular Shake It Up series have new music videos dropping March 9th. Last week both girls released brief sneak peeks of their individual vids as well as a clip that previews both. On Leap Day Zendaya Coleman released this glimpse of her new video, "Something to Dance For." The next day Bella Thorne shared a quick look at her upcoming video for "TTYLXOX." Both songs will be on the upcoming album, Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance, due out March 20th and available for pre-order now!
The combo-teaser featured below, which hit the web the same day Bella's clip did, previews both videos mashed-up but you can watch the individual teasers by clicking on the song titles (above).

That's it for this week. Thanks as always for your time and attention and please don't hesitate to let me know (or post in the comments section) about any vids I might've missed. If nothing else I can include them in next week's Make-Up section. Till next time, Have a Great Week & Keep Your Groove On!
