Nightfly lists his preferred picks from primetime TV and the world of entertainment.

TV Week in Review
  (week of 3/25/12)

In this Week in Review edition Starz, ABC, FOX, Disney and the Science Channel land the most Top Seven list spots, though among them only Starz earned a Top Spot on its respective list. Nickelodeon managed to garner a win in the face of stiff all-Disney competition in a week featuring just four teen show honorees. My Outstanding Sitcoms list sports a three-way tie again messing with the numbering order in a manner similar to that which befell my hour-long list last entry.

On the topic of teen shows, one that I've just decided to start watching (as of this weeked) is Disney's music-themed series, Austin & Ally. I must admit Ross Lynch's single "A Billion Hits" has slowly grown on me over time but the real reason is because I finally realized that its other co-lead, Laura Marano, is the sister of an actress I'm a big fan of. Regular WiR readers know I've listed family drama Switched at Birth often, well, it turns out Laura Marano is Vanessa Marano's younger sister. Yesterday while writing this column I was watching the Disney channel waiting for a new Shake It Up and looked up to see an Austin & Ally episode had started. After mere seconds of seeing Laura in a scene I thought, "she sure looks a lot like Vanessa Marano," then the opening credits began and I saw her last name. So, this paragraph is me letting you know A&A is a series you can expect to see listing in my Fave Teen Shows category in future columns. Unfortunately its next epi is its thirteenth (already) so I assume the season will be ending soon. D'Oh!

Premieres to look out for this week include Sand Masters and Shonda Rhimes' new drama Scandal (both debuting 4/5) and J-Love's The Client List splashing onto screens next Sunday, April 8th. Check-in at GetGlue if you'd like a Coming Soon sticker for Scandal.

Surprisingly, my total hours viewed count for this column didn't just decrease (by 3.5 hours) as compared to my last installment, it's actually a lower total than I've seen in over a month. I watched forty-nine overall hours last week despite unfortunately missing two shows I'd hoped to catch (Triggers: Weapons That Changed the World and Stacey David's Gearz). My grand total was achieved by screening 26hrs of hour-long series, 13hrs of primetime reality programming and ten hours (counting HoL) of sitcoms.

This column entry doesn't highlight any poster art but I'll be compensating with an extra couple of previews. If you haven't seen the exciting trailer for the new season of Doctor Who yet why not watch it where you can score a GetGlue sticker just for checking-in here (same clip as below).

Adult Swim's mini-sitcom Eagleheart doesn't kick-off its second season until April 12th, however, its Season One DVD hits shelves tomorrow (Tues. 4/3). Last Friday this trailer for S2 hit the web (below), read about it here and follow Eagleheart (and series co-star Maria Thayer) on twitter for news & updates.

Aaron Sorkin returns to TV this summer with what looks to be a riveting series titled, The Newsroom (for HBO), starring Jeff Daniels. This hard-hitting (well-timed) trailer dropped Friday (3/30). read about it here and make sure to see it for yourself (below). HBO also released a tempting peek at True Blood's fifth season premiere last Friday, screen it here. Notice anyone missing?

The renowned Criterion Collection tweeted the news last week that they've graciously made some "hard to find titles" available for free via Hulu. Check out their generous offerings here.

Sony finally released a couple trailers for this summer's Total Recall, watch them and read the synopsis at the official site here. TR opens August 3rd.

Jeffrey Combs fans won't want to miss the new trailer for upcoming film Would You Rather. WYR stars Brittany Snow and co-stars Combs, John Heard, Enver Gjokaj and Sasha Grey. See the bloody horrorific preview here.
Another horror pic with a new trailer out last week was Jennifer Lawrence's House at the End of the Street, see and read about it here. Lawrence fans should also check out my iTV column in which I spotlight a clip from her recent Rolling Stone cover shoot.

Go BTS of The Avengers with Norton anti-virus in this informative clip I suspect you'll enjoy (below). Read about it here.

The last two movie trailers I chose to share focus on sublime physicality. The first isn't really a new clip but since I only discovered it last week it's new to me. Being a Jason Statham fan I'm highly interested in seeing (and eventually owning) Safe! Marvel at its fightastic preview (below) and don't miss its opening weekend later this month (4/27).

The second physical clip closing out this week's WiR is for a hot flick kicking off this summer. The frenetic trailer for Step Up 4: Revolution sincerely impressed me, take a look and see if it impresses you too. Read about the trailer here.

And in case you missed it (like I did), a super-cool BTS clip hit YouTube last month promoting a documentary due out April 6th titled, Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope. Directed by Morgan Spurlock, the doc boasts a geek "Dream Team" of partners including Stan Lee, Joss Whedon, Todd McFarlane, Thomas Tull, Harry Knowles and many more. I recommend you give it a look-see here.

In closing, as usual, I bring you the new GetGlue stickers I found and/or personally unlocked in the past week. For films now playing in select cities you can earn glue by checking-in to the page for Sound of Noise and for screening a preview for The Island President. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is currently offering a sticker there promoting the film's digital release on Blu-ray. Coming Soon Stickers are there to be grabbed just for treating yourself to the trailers for Chimpanzee (4/20), Sound of My Voice (4/27), Men in Black 3 (5/25) and a ltd. time Nick Fury sticker for The Avengers (5/4). Speaking of Marvel, check into the folllowing to unlock graphic comic book glue; Avengers VS. X-Men #0, Avenging Spider-Man #5, Uncanny X-Men #9, The Mighty Thor #12, The New Avengers #23, Avengers #24.1, Astonishing X-Men #48, X-Factor #233 and X-Men Legacy #264.

Thanks for your time and attention in visiting this column, please check out my other two weekly columns (about web tv and music video) both are quite robust this outing. Have a great first week of April and Happy Viewing!
