147. Matter Eater Lad (15 points)
This dude as multiple histories and some voted for the original and some didn't say, so I am gonna put what info I can find. Cool? Cool.
Matter-Eater Lad is the fifteenth member to join the Legion of Super-Heroes, he came soon after Bouncing Boy joined the team. Matter-Eater Lad explained his origins to the team, telling that the natives of his planet Bismoll found that microbes had made all their food inedible, and that the population evolved their ability to eat all matter as a survival mechanism to overcome that problem. Tenzil has a mother named Mitz Kem. While his brother Renkil tried to take Tenzil's place in the Legion but was unsuccessful. Tenzil has an unadmitted crush on Shrinking Violet in the team.
The Post-Zero Hour version of the character also has the power shape shift into any form of any matter that he consumes.
In his 2nd history, Tenzil ultimately arrives on Earth and uses his force of will and his sense of humor to free fellow Legion member Polar Boy from prison when Polar Boy is imprisoned unjustly by the Dominator-controlled Earth government for speaking out against the Dominators. Tenzil then rejoins the Legion, and since the team is now operating without the assistance of the United Planets, his political connections and owed favors become very important to the adult Legion. Matter Eater Lad ultimately seduces and marries former villain Saturn Queen as an accomplishment.
Current history, Tenzil Kem is a prosecutor that works for the United Planets. He is in charge of the investigation of Cosmic Boy to determine if he is guilty of war crimes. He is currently trapped on the planet Winath, where his trail of Cosmic Boy has ended, after being led astray by citizens on the planet.
146. Synch (15 points)
I so love this character. Love him.
Everett Thomas was a mutant born in St. Louis, Missouri. He possessed an aura which allowed him to synch up with other super humans in his immediate vicinity, thereby briefly gaining any powers they possessed.
The mechanical collective race known as the Phalanx had assimilated the X-Men and attempted to wipe out what was to be the next generation of mutant heroes. Synch had accidentally synched to Banshee, who was in the area, and had shattered all the windows in his area with Banshee's "borrowed" scream. He didn't know how he did it, but the next thing he knew there was a slew of police officers with guns pointed at him. Unfortunately for them, the menace wasn't Everett, but the Phalanx, who attacked the officers. Luckily, he was saved thanks to the help of the Emma Frost, Sabretooth, Banshee, and Jubilee. This misfit band of heroes ended up saving the other kids who were attacked by the Phalanx. With the sacrifice of Blink, they managed to escape.
Following the end of the Phalanx crisis, Everett and the other youths were all relocated to the Massachusetts Academy, where they trained to use their powers, received a formal education, and acted as the next generation of X-Men, Generation X.
Synch was one of the original members of Generation X, headed by Banshee and Emma Frost. He met his untimely demise when the school had a bomb placed in it by Emma Frost's sister, Adrienne. Heroically, Synch search for the bomb using his teammates powers that he sync'd up with. He would find it but he was too far from his team to properly use their powers. He would jump on the bomb and take the explosion himself dieing at the same time. His death would ensure the survival of hundreds of others. Following his death, the academy would be shut down and Generation X would disband going their separate ways.
Synch is a mutant who possesses an aura which allows him to be "in synch" with other mutants in his immediate vicinity, thereby gaining any powers they might possess. It may be possible for him to Synch with the powers of some NON-mutants however, considering that at one point he synched with Spider-Man's powers. The powers Synch "synchs" will fade some time after the superhuman with whom he is "in synch" leaves his vicinity. It has been theorized that, with practice, Synch could be able to permanently retain powers he has acquired.
Synch is also able to track other mutants by allowing his aura to lock on to the mutant's bio-signature. The aura will then extend in the general direction of the mutant's location.
When Synch uses his powers, a multi-colored aura of light appears around his body. This aura is caused by the energies he is absorbing splitting the ambient light around him, causing the described effect.
145. Freefall (16 points)
Roxy is the daughter of Alex Fairchild (a member of Team 7) and Gloria Spaulding. In her childhood, Roxy's father was sent on a secret mission and Gloria had no way to contact him, so Roxy was raised by her mother and step father. She was put into a Catholic School where she was mistreated by her classmates. She speaks with a sort of valley girl accent.
Roxy was tested by the International Operations (I.O.) because her father was exposed to the Gen-factor. Since the I.O. thought the children of the members of Team 7 inherited super human abilities, they started Project Genesis to test and recruit gen-active children. I.O. eventually tried to enslave the subjects of Project Genesis, so Roxy and the other members of Gen 13 escaped. During the escape, Roxy's powers manifested and she found out she could manipulate gravity, giving her the codename Freefall.
When Gen 13 relocated to San Diego after they escaped from Project Genesis, Freefall snuck over to a dance club and met an alien named Queelocke, who became Roxy's pet. She eventually found out that her team mate Fairchild was her half-sister, and was very mad at her mother for lying her whole life. Alex Fairchild eventually became the mentor of Gen 13, and had conflicts with Roxy, though she came to accept him as a father he soon died trying to save the team.
Over the next few months, Roxy had a lot of arguments with her teammates, who had always had difficulties understanding Roxy's infatuation with Grunge, her smoking habits, and her general attitude. Their concerns were proven correct when Roxy found out that Grunge had been having an affair with Swift from The Authority. Despite this all, Roxy was still in love with Grunge. Roxy also became a bit of an otaku, with a great love for J-pop music and anime.
Roxy was thought to be killed in an explosion with the rest of Gen 13, but in fact, Gen 13 had been displaced to an alternate universe and they returned to their own Earth months later.
