174. ROM (13 points)
I want DnA to write him.
Take it away Amoeb.
The planet Galador was beset by an evil dominating race called the Dire Wraiths. To combat them the planets leader, the Prime Director, called on volunteers to forfeit some of their humanity and become fighting cyborgs. The first volunteer was a young man named Rom. His remaining body parts were encased in a metallic (almost robotic) frame. He was given a weapon that functioned as both an analyzer (able to identify the shape changing Dire Wraiths) and as a neutralizer (with the ability to send the Dire Wraiths into a limbo like prison).
Inspired by Rom's call to duty, other Galadorans also became cyborgs. Each one getting a different look and abilities. Together, the Space Knights fought back the Wraiths and freed their planet.
The battle over, the Prime Director offered to de-cyborg them and give them their full humanity back, Rom and a handful of others declined. They wanted to end the threat of the Dire Wraiths forever.
After 200 years, Rom found his way to Earth, West Virginia actually where he met a young woman called Brandy Clark. The Wraiths attacked (shape shifted to look like townies) and Rom dispatched them to Limbo. To the actual humans, it looked like Rom killed them and he was hunted for a time.
Brandy, her soon to be ex Steve Jackson, the Torpedo and Rick Jones all came to Rom's aid as the Dire Wraiths stepped up their campaign to conquer the Earth. Just as victory was within their grasp, a new breed (actually gender) of Wraiths came to Earth. The female Wraiths were magic based as opposed to the male's science and without the combined efforts of Rom and pretty much all of Earth's heroes they were finally beat.
His mission complete, Rom took off to visit his home planet for the first time in ages. When he got there he discovered that when the Space Knights left in pursuit of the Wraiths, they created a second generation of Space Knights. These guys weren't as nice as the first batch and they killed everyone on the planet (save for a new visitor - Brandy, who had fallen in love with Rom and after meeting the Beyonder was transported to Galador). The remaining original Space Knights banded together to defeat the killers of their world.
Afterwards, the Knights were horrified to find that their human parts (kept on ice) had been destroyed save for Rom's. Rom was converted back to human while the other Space Knights would forever be cyborgs.
Human again, Rom professed his love to Brandy and they remain on Galador (with at least one trip back to Earth for Rick Jones's wedding.
173. Fantomex (14 points)
Fantomex is heavily based on Diabolik, an Italian comic book anti-hero. The name is borrowed from Fantomâs, another Italian anti-hero whom Diabolik in turn is based on. Another reference to Diabolik is that both have partners named Eva/E.V.A.
Fantomex is one of the more recent creations of the Weapon Plus program. Fantomex was born and artificially evolved in The World, an artificial world made for creating super-soldiers using Sentinel technology. He was designed as Weapon XIII, has gone by the alias of Jean-Phillipe, and he was designated the name Charlie Cluster-7 in The World.
It is important to note that Fantomex has a history of misleading others, although his intentions are not always obvious. As with his early history, he claims many things about his powers that are not necessarily substantiated by evidence.
Fantomex has exhibited a variety of mental powers, one of which is having the ability to enter himself into a state of "auto-hypnosis", effectively putting his body on auto-pilot in order to perform surgery and other delicate tasks on himself. He exhibited this ability once by inducing this state in order to remove several bullets from his body. He exhibits a form of telepathy he refers to as "misdirection", which allows him to create realistic and immerse illusions on a variety of scales. His misdirection is powerful enough to fool large numbers of people and even the most powerful and experienced telepaths, as evident when he showed Professor X and Jean Grey his home in the mountains complete with a variety of stolen goods and a woman he called his mother. He is also a master at reading body-language, able to discern up the intentions of those around him by simply observing posture, gestures, and facial movements.
Fantomex's has an external nervous system named E.V.A. He claims to have produced E.V.A. through his mouth one day when he lost his voice while still in The World. She later continued to grow and changed form into a flying saucer. E.V.A. is capable of independent thought, but acts as Fantomex's primary external nervous system. They share each others thoughts as well as emotions. His secondary nervous system is located in his body, but is not advanced. When using his secondary nervous system alone he is only able to see the world in black and white.
Aside from his more notable abilities, Fantomex possesses many other characteristics which are heightened beyond those of a normal humans. He possesses superhuman agility, moving through fights and evading enemies better than most acrobats. He is an expert marksman, and is able to use this ability even when doing complicated acrobatic movements during a fight. He possesses enhanced strength, and is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant.
Fantomex is one of the most mysterious people in the Marvel Universe. He talks in a heavy French accent, which leads many people to believe that he is French, but he has revealed to some that he speaks with a French accent because he finds it distracts and annoys people. Regardless of the situation, Fantomex's plays his cards very close to the chest, with his true motivations often left unknown until the moment he decides to tip his hand.
172. Jubilee (14 points)
At least she got double digit points, twig.
It's ok. You will get thru this.
Jubilation Lee is a Chinese-American girl, and was born in Beverly Hills, California, where she lived with her wealthy immigrant parents. An immensely talented gymnast, she was believed to have the potential to participate in the Olympic Games. After her parents were killed Jubilee ran away to live at the closest thing that felt like home, the mall. While there she stole to survive and was a constant annoyance to the mall rent-a-cops. Finally growing tired of her they called the M Squad to capture her. As luck would have it Storm, Rogue, Dazzler and Psylocke were visiting the mall from their home base in Australia courtesy of Gateway. Seeing Jubilee attacked, the four women easily defeated the M Squad and went back through the gateway. Unknown to them Gateway left the portal open longer than needed, and Jubilee followed them through it.
Alone in the Australian outback, and unsure of what the X-Men would do to her, Jubilee created a small place in their hideout to live in. After a brief run-in with Nanny, Jubilee's presence was still unknown to all but Gateway who kept quiet. Some time later the Reavers came to the base to reclaim it, only to discover that many of the X-Men had already left. Psylocke, Havok, Colossus and Dazzler entered the Siege Perilous to escape from the Reavers with no knowledge of Jubilee still being there. Caught by surprise when he returned, Wolverine was taken by the Reavers and crucified on a giant X. Jubilee was terrified, but did not want to leave the injured man alone. Using all of his remaining strength, Wolverine forced himself off of the x-shaped crucifix. Thinking to herself that she could either help Wolverine or look after her own safety, Jubilee risked being detected by the Reavers in order to rescue him. She then nursed him back to health in her makeshift hideout inside the outback base, sneaking past the Reavers on multiple occasions in order to collect food and medicine. In a dream hallucination, Wolverine thought Jubilee was a combination of Nick Fury and Carol Danvers. Confused and weak from the tortures that he faced, Logan lashed out towards Jubilee. Acting on pure instinct alone, Jubilee blasted him with her energy bursts, sending him across the room. After he came back to his senses, Wolverine decided it best for them to make an escape to a more secure area. Teaming up for the first time, Wolverine and Jubilee managed to take down several cybernetic dogs. Donald Pierce of the Hellfire Club attacked soon after, as he was leading a group of Reavers in search of Wolverine. Thinking that he only had to deal with the feral mutant, Pierce was buried under a pile of boulders that Jubilee blasted off of the ceiling. Safe for the time being, they escaped to Sydney, where they boarded a ship to Madripoor.
Once on the island Wolverine and Jubilee began to form a close bond while waiting for his mutant powers to heal his horrible injuries. While in Madripoor Jubilee was captured by The Mandarin and Lady Mandarin. When Lady Mandarin led her to believe Wolverine was dead, Jubilee unleashed a massive burst of power in a fit of grief and rage, completely destroying Mandarin's fortress. The damage she caused frightened Jubilee deeply, and made her extremely wary of using her powers to their full potential, out of fear of hurting someone. Freed from her brainwashing, Psylocke joined Wolverine and Jubilee in their travels. After hearing of mutants being attacked, the trio made their way to Genosha where they met Boom Boom and Rictor who had lost their powers. Leaving Jubilee to guard the depowered mutants, Wolverine and Psylocke attempted to invade the Magistrate headquarters but were captured. The young mutants escaped capture and helped the other X-Men to defeat Cameron Hodge. Upon returning to the U.S. Jubilee joined Storm, Wolverine, Forge, Psylocke, Banshee and Gambit as a member of the X-Men. Although she accompanied them on many of their missions, they were wary of placing her in danger because of her young age. When Wolverine was kidnapped by The Hand she argued that she should be allowed to help (as she had previously fought and defeated The Hand), and found an unlikely ally in Psylocke. After run-ins with the Skrulls, Brood and Mojo Jubilee was finally made to stay at the mansion, and not permitted on missions anymore due to her age.
When Professor X was almost killed by what appeared to be Cable, Jubilee informed the X-Men that no one knew what Stryfe looked like and he could be disguised as Cable. Once Professor X was cured he regained the use of his legs for a short time and Jubilee took him roller blading. After spending some time bonding with him she realized that he wasn't the stuffy guy she took him for, and they grew closer. After his legs began to weaken, Jubilee helped him back into his chair, realizing that just being there meant more than anything she could say. Some time later Jubilee accompanied Wolverine to their old base in Australia. Their arrival set off the Sentinels whose attack interacted with Gateways portal and sent Jubilee back in time to her parents' house just before they were killed. Certain she could save them from dying in the car crash she was convincing them not to go when the doorbell rang. At the door were two hit men Reno and Molokai, who took her parents away at gunpoint. Learning that their car crash had been faked, and that they had in fact been murdered, Jubilee swore revenge. Upon returning to the present she tracked the two hit men down, with Logan backing her up the entire time. But once she had her parents killers at her mercy, she found that she couldn't bring herself to kill them, which pleased Logan.
Back at the mansion Jubilee became close friends with Colossus's little sister Illyana Rasputin. When Illyana was diagnosed with the Legacy Virus Jubilee spent all of her time at Illyana's bedside. When Kitty Pryde arrived Jubilee was jealous of her at first because she was Wolverines first sidekick, but the two soon formed a friendship. Despite all their attempts they were unable to save Illyana. Jubilee took her death extremely hard, almost as bad as Colossus. Several weeks later she had another loss to deal with. After Magneto removed the adamantium from Wolverine's skeleton, he decided to leave the X-Men for a while. Knowing how much this would affect Jubilee, he wrote her a touching goodbye letter and left his favorite cowboy hat for her.
A short time later Sabretooth was brought to the mansion by Professor X and held in captivity there. Jubilee was terrified of him, and had nightmares of him killing the X-Men. Attempting to get over her fears she began to bring food to Sabretooth, who taunted the poor girl mercilessly. One night her nightmares almost came true when the mansion's security system went down and Sabretooth escaped. He hunted the X-Men throughout the mansion, but Jubilee took him down with a neutralizer pistol.
With the other X-Men busy, Banshee was the only person to notice that Jubilee was having trouble coping with all that had happened. When the Phalanx assimilated most of the X-Men, Jubilee and Banshee were forced to team up with Sabretooth and the White Queen, Emma Frost, to escape from them. The unusual group worked together to gather all the mutants listed by Professor X as future allies. The Phalanx was defeated thanks to the sacrifice of a young mutant girl named Blink.
Then along came Generation X, which was a fantastic comic.
