Mystery Men is the new Marvel mini-series by David Liss and Patrick Zircher that debuted earlier this month to rave reviews across the Internet. As issue #2 hits stores today, David Liss has provided the Outhouse with an exclusive profile of the the Revenant, one of the characters appearing in the book.
Mystery Men Profile: The Revenant
Name: Ezekiel WrightPower/Special Ability: A knowledge of stage magic that allows him to create the illusion of mystic powers.
Character's Origin: Unjustly accused of a crime, he was forced to flee, and adopted the guise of the Revenant to better pursue justice.
Inspiration for the Character: The Shadow......the Original Ghost Rider...the Phantom of the Opera...additional supernatural & mystic pulp characters of the time.
Role that Character Plays in Mystery Men: In many ways, the Revenant is the moral center of this loose confederation of heroes. He is the least damaged by his past, and the most willing to go out on a limb and set aside his own immediate desires to pursue the greater good.
Final Thoughts on the Character: The Revenant was one of those characters I "got" as soon as I started thinking and writing about him. He's just, competent, unflappable, and kind of cool. I'd love to have the chance to do more with him.
