TV Week in Review  (week of 12/18/11)

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! Unsurprisingly this column isn't as robust as most, frankly, I suspect next week's column will even be sparer. Even so, I managed to put together a reasonably respectable effort (if I say so, myself). TNT and Showtime both earned double placement on my hour-long scripted list, with FOX and TV Land replicating the feat in my Outstanding Sitcoms category. Predictably, the Bravo network was the only net to land twice on my (temporarily) expanded Reality Shows list, though, Sundance's The Mortified Sessions makes WiR history by taking the top spot on my Reality Shows list for the first time ever. I honestly don't know if the dearth of competition is most responsible or not, nevertheless, Showtime's Homeland finale claims my Top of the List scripted list spot for the first time ever as well. FOX's animated sitcom Allen Gregory also makes a first-ever appearance in my column for my sitcoms list.
Tonight, I'm looking forward to the (annual) Doctor Who Christmas special (this time titled, "The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe") and Leverage will also be airing a new episode tonight too. The Science Channel is airing a Firefly marathon today, for which you can score a sweet GetGlue sticker by checking-in here. You can also earn Christmas stickers today from BET, crooner Michael Bublé and from Disney for watching the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade. There's plenty more GG links in this column's closing paragraghs, so now I'll move straight away to my favorite recommendations from last week's primetime TV...

Late Friday Nickelodeon starlets Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies, from Victorious, released this cover of Mel Tormé & Bob Wells' classic "The Christmas Song" which they've charmingly renamed, simply, "Chestnuts." Enjoy.

1. The Mortified Sessions - "Nick Offerman & Megan Mullally" (Sundance)

Just seventeen hours of primetime TV for me last week, I spent unusually free hours rewatching Season Seven of BtVS on dvd (just finished "Sleeper"). The only show I failed to catch, that I'd intended to watch, was the "Holiday Bizarre" episode of Oddities - I'm sure I'll be able to catch it on a replay or OnDemand soon, though. My Reality Shows section is the only one with any honorable mention honorees to name, those being Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan, All on the Line and Glam Fairy.

The super-cool readers of my column have almost certainly watched the latest trailers for The Hobbit and The Dark Knight Rises multiple times, so, I thought I'd embed a couple clips you might not've screened quite as much (yet). First up, scheduled for a January 20th release date, Kate Beckinsale returns for a third time as Death Dealer Selene in Underworld: Awakening... check out its titillating full trailer below. In case you didn't know, it's a 'new war' now.

Ridley Scott's enlisted Charlize Theron to set up the origin of the classic Alien franchise he launched back in 1979 in the upcoming prequel, Prometheus. Behold its somewhat cryptic trailer clip (below) and make of it what you will.

Regarding the subject of GetGlue, one of my recent obsessions, I've unlocked a treasure trove of sticker links to share with you in this column. I'd generally include more info along with each listing but today, because there's so many I'm going to just list their titles (in the order of their upcoming premieres). Click on these titles then check-in where they lead you for free stickers from the following; Shameless (1/8), Californication (1/8), Shipping Wars (1/10), The Finder (1/12), Napoleon Dynamite (1/15) and Switched at Birth (1/15).
Blu-ray and DVD release stickers can be unlocked for films Chop, Friends with Benefits, and, the live musical tour captured in Glee: The Concert. Movies offering Coming Soon stickers include, Pariah (12/28), Beauty & the Beast 3D (1/13), Coriolanus (1/20), One for the Money (1/27) and The Grey (1/27).
Lastly, for comic book fans, don't miss out on these newly offered Marvel stickers for Invincible Iron Man and Uncanny X-Force.

Merry Christmas, Be Well & Happy Viewing!!
