Nightfly's Music Video Week in Review (week of 2/5/12)
I was well entertained by this particular batch of videos, hopefully you'll find one or two you like too. Since I'm running a bit behind (publishing) schedule I'll just move right onto pressing items.
In my previous music column I embedded the Jessie James video, "When You Say My Name." Last week a brief BTS clip came out for the video, check it out below.
Singer/Songwriter Jes Hudak is an artist whose talent and drive I really admire. As a fan, it's my pleasure to pass along this holiday message from Jes announcing some exciting news. "It's almost Valentine's Day, which is when Quickie Mart and I are dropping our first official single as Bang, You're Dead on Beatport.com. We have been putting a lot of hard work into our new electronica/soul duo, and we've got 2 brand-new songs for you to hear. One of them is a secret surprise giveaway track featuring 2 amazing rappers, and the other one, "Second Chance," will be available for sale as the B-Side to the "Alive" PartyMonster remix." Take a moment to check out Hudak's official site where you can hear several of her tracks and watch her perform in a number of videos.
Keeping with the Valentine's Day theme, GetGlue & Beyoncé are offering a sexy-cool sticker for celebrating the holiday by watching "Love On Top" (Live). Check it out here and check-in to grab the glue. BTW, you can also snag a sticker for Adam Lambert's "Better Than I Know Myself" video by checking-in here.
Today (2/13), Taylor Swift & The Civil Wars' official video for "Safe & Sound" (from The Hunger Games) premiered. It's the first video from the film's soundtrack. Rather than wait for next week to spotlight it, I figured since I'm publishing this late anyway I might as well highlight it now. Today GetGlue made this new sticker available for checking-in to Swift's page.

This week's first bonus video really should've been featured last week. Yep, another make-up bonus video, hehe.
"You and I" by Lady Gaga {released 2/3 via YouTube} [TV-14]
* Read about it here.
Fans of Zooey Deschanel's "adorakble" series New Girl should take some time to play with a new interactive video they've set up for their title song, "Hey Girl." I had fun making various versions, perhaps you will too. Watch the clip for it (below) then go here to make a version of the video for yourself. Here's another informative BTS video here.
Another Music/TV connection worth mentioning is an awesome site for bios, music, videos, and free streams from various artists featured on ABC shows. It's the ABC Music Lounge and I was happily following them on twitter long before it became mutual. I highly recommend giving the site a look-see. I personally I dig it a lot.
Lastly, having been a sophomore in high school when her eponymous album debuted, Whitney Houston's music is - in a real way - fully woven into the fabric of my musical DNA. In remembering her superlative talents I can't help but recall her awe-inspiring rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. Her version and Jimi Hendrix's are the two that always spring to mind when I think of our Natl. Anthem, musically. I'm grateful to've been able to experience and appreciate her great talent for the time she had. The world of music would be blessed to have more songstresses of her caliber. I end this column, somberly, with her incredible Superbowl performance from 1991.
Thanks for Chasing The Matrix with me for another week and sharing in my enthusiasm for music video. Let me know if you know of any I missed. Have a Great Week & Keep Your Groove On!
