Nightfly's iTV Week in Review  (week of 3/11/12)
...transferring data now...

The events of WonderCon this weekend brought major iTV news likely to bring multiple new shows to future columns. Chris Hardwick (in partnership with The Jim Henson Company) announces his new Nerdist Channel (below) promising an impressive array of shows from stars such as Neil Patrick Harris, 'Weird Al' YankovicRob Zombie and more. But that's not all, Felicia Day also unveiled the lineup of her new web channel called Geek & Sundry. G&S will produce and deliver webseries including The Guild, Sword & Laser, Wil Wheaton's Tabletop, and, Dark Horse Presents: Motion Comics to name just a few. Indeed, a nerd dawn has broken!! Both geektastic networks debut April 2nd so make sure to subscribe to both channels ASAP!!

Last Thursday a seventeen minute long campaign film came out from President Obama, narrated by Tom Hanks. Check it out here if that's something that sounds interesting to you. Speaking of U.S. politics, in the interest of "equal time," two insightful columns by political heroes of mine came out last week I figured I'd share here too. First Ralph Nader tells it like it really is in his latest missive, Perils of Global Economy, and, Maureen Dowd asks a well-reasoned yet controversial question in her latest column titled, Don't Tread on Us.

I really have no idea exactly when this short film titled, Solipsist, first hit the web but it couldnt've been too long ago since it's the Slamdance 2012 Special Jury Prize Winner for Experimental Short Film. No doubt it's captivating and colorful. Take a look (below) and see what you think for yourself.

For those following the PBS Online Film Festival, four new shorts cycled in last week tackling the subject of "Girl Power." Watch all four then vote for your favorite by clicking on a given film's "Like" button. This week brings new entries All Falls Down [Runtime 13.47], Flawed [Runtime 12.38], Keao [Runtime 10.07] and Meet Beverly [Runtime 3.30].

The same day the President's campaign documentary came out the decidedly offbeat webseries Girl and Boy (Starring Helenna Santos Levy & Barry W. Levy) dropped its entire nine webisode first season online. In light of the whole season being up, I opted to merely post its home site link here instead of embedding its first and/or last webisode(s). The news of this webseries came to me through friend of my columns, Nerds in Babeland. Read their informative article about Girl and Boy here and watch all nine installments back to back here.

Before moving on to my preferred webseries and clips from last week I wanted to address a couple TV-centric issues related to this (and past) columns. First, CBS' Anatomy of a Hit: C.S.I., as of yesterday (3/18), didn't release a new webisode for last week which is why it's not here where it'd normally appear. Lastly, regarding TV shows, there's a bit of a story to tell about why I'm only now relaying that one of my favorite sitcoms, Happy Endings, has been posting webisodes for the past couple weeks. Admittedly, I don't always explore all my favorite series' webpages if I'm not specifically hunting for WiR related content. It's a perk for me and the listed shows, as I see it. It's one of the reasons I enjoy writing my weekly column because it spurs me to peruse the online content of shows I'm delcaring as my favorites. So... the obvious fact in this case is that Happy Endings, while consistently funny, simply didn't list in my previous two columns which just happened to be the first two weeks Happy Rides debuted. I also don't remember seeing commercials (within the show) for the webseries before the most recent episode and despite my subscription to ABC's newsletter my first email notification about it didn't arrive until last week either. Apparently, it was just not my fate to learn of this webseries on time - I guess that's what I get for not listing HE the past two weeks (hehe). Now you know.
