Marvel's Civil War prose novel will be adapted to GraphicAudio... a Movie in Your Mind!
Source: Press Release
In 2006, the Marvel Universe changed forever with the Civil War crossover event, which pitted hero against hero in an epic showdown that spanned fifteen miniseries and a hundred and ninety-six crossover issues. Civil War not only had lasting ramifications for the ficitonal Marvel Universe, but for the comics industry as a whole, as ignoring characterization and storytelling in favor of pumping out gimmicky, money-grabbing event after gimmicky-money-grabbing event became an annual tradition.
Marvel released a prose novel adaptation of the story last month, allowing fans to experience the mischaracterization of beloved characters all over again, this time without pictures. Marvel hasn't stopped there, though. Now, you can imagine Iron Man acting like a Nazi, Reed Richards creating an evil clone of Thor, and Captain America surrendering to pressure rather than fighting what he believes in with the assistance of GraphicAudio... a Movie in Your Mind.
GrapicAudio isn't your standard audiobook. It has a full cast of voice actors, a cinematic score, and sound effects, all designed to hopefully distract the listener from subbar storytelling and unlikable characters. "'This is final, definitive proof that you can polish a turd,'" said Joe Quesada," lied the Outhouse.
If the audiobook doesn't convince readers that Civil War was a good story, Marvel will keep trying, in an effort to fulfill their longstanding business model of telling the same story over and over again forever literally, instead of just figuratively with rehashed plotlines and lack of any real character progression in their comics. Next up is the Smell-O-Vision version of Civil War, which will delight the noses of readers with the pungent combination of mutant sweat and the blood of children on Wolverine's claws, followed by another audio version produced using tones and pitches that can only be heard by dogs.
Civil War in GraphicAudio will be released in March, 2013, and will be followed by two Ultimates novels and a Spider-Man novel, so get ready to make some tough decisions, Nobel Prize committee.
Marvel will not be held responsible for intelligent readers gouging their eardrums with sporks after listening to a serious debate about civil rights get reduced to an immature tale of fistfights in spandex in full cinematic audio.
