Samurai 7 will debut on Toonami come August 19. The anime is a reworking of the classic Akira Kurosawa movie, The Seven Samuari (1954). Though the series itself takes place in a futuristic dystopia setting.   The series lasted twenty-six episodes and originally debuted here in the states on IFC in 2006 before having a small run on Funanimation Channel (Funanimation is the American disturbutor of the series) a few years later.

The series originally debuted in Japan in 2004. There is no word yet what other series Toonami has purchased, though we'll know come November 3, since by that time the other original Toonami programing that debuted alongside Deadman Wonderland, Casshern Sins will have ended.
