Marvel NOW! Is right around the corner and kicks off with Uncanny Avengers #1. Writer Rick Remender and Senior VP - Executive Editor Tom Brevoort hosted today's liveblog about this title.
Though the title will come in the aftermath of Avengers Vs X-Men, you don't have to read it to understand Uncanny Avengers. Brevoort says that this is definitely an Avengers title and that the team will function out of the Avengers Mansion. Remender notes that the team forms out of chaos, it isn't a drawn out selection process. Captain America is trying to form a bridge between the mutants and Avengers, and show the public that mutants are not "boogeymen", then the Red Skull enters the scene and messes things up.
The team will initally be composed of Captain America, Wolverine, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Havok and Rogue; but will eventually have 9-10 members.Because of the way this team is "built" Remender notes, there will be a lot of "internal tension and drama". Each character will have their own arc including:
- Wolverine's situation coming out of X-Force
- Wanda's path to redemption
- Rogue dealing with her own issues, resulting in her being more surly "more Wolverine than Wolverine is"
Professor Xavier will be seen in the book. Remender says that "Xavier's dream is the rulebook" for the team.
On to the villains, the Red Skull has an anti-mutant agenda and is gathering his own team (the S-Men). He preaches that humans and mutants cannot live together and that humanity cannot win unless they get behind him. The first 20 issues will also feature two other noteworthy villains: Apocalypse and Kang (also note that it looks from the preview art Avalanche will also appear).
Uncanny Avengers goes on sale one week after AVX ends, October 10, 2012.
