I think I have enough comp time to go and volunteer at Wizard World Ohio...it will cost how much to do what now?!
Source: Volunteer for Wizard Comic Cons!
This morning, on Facebook, Ohio Comic Con posted:
Volunteers Wanted! Wizard World is looking for volunteers for their OHIO show! For more information please visit http://www.wizardworld.com/volunteer-wizard.html OR contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Yours truly was all set to write up a snarky article about how Wizard used to rule the comic book “news” world and now they need volunteers, but then I made the mistake of looking at the details for Wizard World Ohio Comic Con and almost threw up in my mouth.
I admit, I don’t really know how conventions like this work, but when photo ops average $61 (not including the up-charge for extra prints and a digital copy) and autographs cost, on average, ~$57 you can take your request for volunteers and shove it up your ass! (***Prices subject to change without notice***)
Oh, by the way, if you do volunteer you get a shirt and are allowed to stay after your shift – but you do not get any kind of discount to the above events.
Ticket prices are pretty reasonable, $30 for Friday or Sunday / $35 for Saturday and $50 for all three days (add $10 if you don’t pre-buy the tickets), but all that seems to get you is a pass into a giant comic book flea market considering EVERY THING ELSE can cost you up to $500!
Look, maybe it’s because I was broke for so long, but I wouldn’t pay $500 to meet a resurrected Frank Zappa, let alone Captain Kirk or $200 to meet Eliza Dushku. That is insane!
Fucking Hell. To paraphrase former Indianapolis Colts coach, Jim E. Mora; Volunteers? Don’t talk about – volunteers?! You kidding me?!
To top it all off, Wizard World also has denied press passes to various awesome media outlets (us) and has pushed local / independent talent out of the convention to make room for Lou Ferrigno' ego. I'd say Wizard World is the Wal*Mart of comic book conventions, but Wall*Mart is still relevant.

RU, or as he’s known in the writers’ room: the cute one, is relatively unappreciated in his time. RU’s YouTube show, RUviews is watched by literally multiple people every month and his Outhouse articles have helped line many a bird cage. Before you send RU a message, he knows that there are misspelled words in this article, and probably in this bio he was asked to write. RU wants everyone to know that after 25+ years of collecting he still loves comic books and can’t believe how seriously fanboys take them. RU lives in Akron Ohio (unfortunately) with WIFE, ‘lilRuRu, and the @DogGodThor.
