Talk of a movie based on the 1983 Bally Midway Spy Hunter videogame has been buzzing about since Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the property. The buzz got louder in the following year when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was signed to the movie. Over the years names were thrown about as being as associated with the film: John Woo directing, Zak Penn writing, Paul W.S. Anderson replacement director, etc.
Now, there is news of a new director being signed for a Waner Bros Spy Hunter film: Ruben Fleischer (Zommbieland, Gangster Squad)
Word is that the project will be working off a new script, not one penned previously. No release date has been announced yet.
