Midtown Comics will get an exclusive cover featuring Derpy Hooves.
Bronies everywhere rejoiced this afternoon when IDW Publishing unveiled a new variant cover of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1. Featured on the cover is Derpy Hooves, the lovable fan-favorite pony caught up in a dreadful scandal that infuriated fans across the globe.
For those fans who haven't received their Cutie Marks yet, Derpy Hooves is a background character with a "derpy" expression on her face. She was named on 4chan and eventually was incorporated into official lore by showmakers. However, Hasbro removed mentions of the character's name from an episode of the show, after Hasbro received complaints that "derpy" was in fact a derogatory term for disabled people.
However, the character appears to be back in the good graces of her parent company, as she's proudly shown holding a My Little Pony comic in her mouth. Whether IDW and writer Katie Cook will actually feature Derpy in the comic remains to be seen. The cover will only be available at Midtown Comics, although it's likely the shop will sell copies online as well.
