Shailene Woodley has been cast as Mary Jane Watson for the Amazing Spider-Man sequel. Hollywood Reporter reported that the role will be a small one for the next movie, but that the role would be much more prominent in the third movie, which will allegedly be based off of the famous "Death of Gwen Stacy" storyarc. While the casting had been rumored for a few weeks, THR confirmed the signing in a report involving Woodley being pursued for a role in a
Hunger Games knockoff teen novel adaptation.
Woodley is best known for her starring role in ABC Family's recently cancelled Secret Life of an American Teenager, in which her character struggled with having to raise a child while still in high school with the full support of her affluent, upper middle-class parents. The show's acting has been praised as "dreadful", "horrible" and "wooden", which leads me to believe that she was perfectly cast.
