Scott Allie tells us that Dark Horse is "still trucking along" with the Star Wars books, at least for now!
We asked Scott Allie, Editor in Chief of Dark Horse Comics, for comments on Disney's just-announced acquisition of Lucasfilm Ltd. The acquisition gives Disney control of the Star Wars property, the comic book right to which have been at Dark Horse since 1991. Here's what Allie had to say:
No news at this time, but we're trucking along with the books. We'll have to see what this means down the road. Interesting times!
It should be noted that, when Disney purchased Marvel in 2009, BOOM! studios held the license for Disney and Pixar comics, and those licenses were moved to Marvel as soon as possible, despite widespread fan acclaim for BOOM!'s work. Dark Horse has held the Star Wars license for over twenty years, however, and has a long and rich history of successfully publishing Star Wars comics, so fans of Dark Horse's Star Wars universe shouldn't give up hope yet.
We should also note that it is possible that the Muppets and other Disney/Pixar licenses were much shorter than whatever deal Dark Horse has.
Disney has announced plans to make a new Star Wars movie in 2015. Amongst other properties, the Lucasfilm acquisition also gives Disney the rights to Indiana Jones.
