Toy Fair 2013: LEGO Licensed Genre Offerings

LEGO unveiled a brickload of sets including a few that might interest comic and movie fans.

In a press release, LEGO announced that there will be 250 new sets at the American International Toy Fair 2013 this weekend (February 10-13, 2013). Among the normal annual releases such as LEGO CITY, LEGO DUPLO, LEGO MINDSTORMS, and the successor to NINJAGO, LEGO Legends of CHIMA; were some sets that genre fans might like. Among what was announced were:

• New to LEGO are five sets based on the upcoming Disney The Lone Ranger movie. The sets will feature the masked hero, his horse, Silver, and companion, Tonto, in sets such as Stagecoach Escape ($29.99) and Constitution Train Chase ($99.99) and ride into stores this April.

• Three new sets will be available tying in to Man of Steel in May.

• Three sets will also be available tying in to Iron Man 3 (sets *might* contain minor spoilers):.

- 76006 Iron Man Extremis Sea Port Battle

- 76007 Icon Man Malibu Mansion Attack

- 76008 Iron Man vs. The Mandarin Ultimate Showdown

• Four new sets based on The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy will hit stores in June, while information on The Hobbit sequel's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be revealed later in 2013.

• LEGO Star Wars fans will have new sets to play with in August with the release of an AT-TE ($89.99) and Jabba's Sail Barge ($119.99).

• The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise was also mentioned in passing.
