Sony Playstation Meeting - Where was Bethesda?

Sony Playstation Meeting - Where was Bethesda?

With the amount I cover Skyrim, I've received a few questions on Bethesda and their absence at the event.

Our good twitter buddy @DCDeacon (Pete Hines), sat down with Spike All-Access after the event to talk about Bethesda and the PS4.  They were at the event, in the audience, and their logo was shown in Sony promotions, so they will have games on the PS4, but as to be expected, he was tight lipped on any details about future Bethesda content.  It's a bit too early in the year to expect much gaming news.

My belief is the next game they are working on is Fallout 4 (not counting future DLC for other games), but I'm just pulling that out of my butt.  Considering the voice work being done by a Fallout voice actor recently and the mention of them computer mapping Boston makes me think it's a good bet.  Also, if you were a company making games and not ending a franchise, you would want to rotate their release.  We had Skyrim, then Dishonored; if you add in Zenimax working on Elder Scrolls Online, I would think Fallout would be a good guess.

When asked about developing for the PS4, Hines said "It's been a good experience."  The difficulties they had getting DLC content out for Skyrim was mentioned passingly by the host, but Hines wasn't asked directly about it.  Considering Sony made a pretty big deal at the beginning of their presentation about making developers happy, and the PS4 not having a unique architecture this time around, I'd say the problems they had are the thing of the past.

He also went on to talk about how some of the features may not impact them.  Many of their games are open world, triple-A type titles and won't make use of many of the social or online features.  Hines said they believe there is a market for the games they make, no matter the increase in game interconnectivity.  When asked about if their new releases would be coming to both PS3 and PS4 like many of the games demo'd today, Hines said vaguely, "it depends."  Adding, "It will depend on what the game is trying to do and what the technical requirements are.  We want to put games out on as many platforms as possible, without compromising it."

Hines, and most of the industry, expect much more in depth about the PS4 come E3.  And maybe, just maybe, we'll get something from Bethesda or Zenimax on one of their next projects as well.
