Marvel took off the wraps on some of the teasers they put out recently at the 2013 South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. Here's a brief rundown on the major announcements from the Marvel panel:
Marvel #1 (teasers here and here) is a new reader initiative, offering over 700 first issues of titles free. This special offer has a short lifespan though, as the free issues are only available from Sunday March 10 until Tuesday March 12 at 11:00 PM EST. Get downloading now via the Marvel Comics app and the Marvel Digital Comics Shop. More information also here and of course via The Outhouse. Hurry!
The "Marvel 52" teasers (here and here) refer to a new series of Infinite Comics featuring four characters. Each character will have a 13 issue weekly run, totalling 52 issues (and weeks) in all. The series will start July 9, 2013 with Wolverine: Japan's Most Wanted by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour with art by Paco Dias and issues will be online each Tuesday.
Project Gamma (teaser here), is soundtrack for your online comics. Marvel is partnering with Momentum Worldwide and CORD to bring an "adaptive audio experience" for your online comics reading experience.
Marvel also announced an expansion of its online offerings with a new, original weekly show titled "Marvel Earth's Mightiest Show". The show will be hosted by Blair Butler and showcases behind-the-scenes content, news, and documentaries. They also said that their already established "The Watcher" and "Marvel Super Heroes: What The --?!" shows will be getting an upgrade.
Finally Marvel also recapped their recent Marvel Unlimited online comics expansion and their new comic reading app.
