Tom Cruise is circling another NBC spy franchise, hoping to turn yet another innovative and brilliant television series into a heartless movie franchise. Cruise is rumored to be in negotiations to star in a Man from U.N.C.L.E. remake, directed by Guy Ritchie. The hopes is to turn the once-popular television show into movie franchise, similar to Cruise's Mission Impossible (which is absolutely nothing like the television series).
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. featured innocent bystanders getting caught up in battles between U.N.C.L.E and THRUSH, an evil organization bent on taking over the world. It had a bit of a campy side to it, which was heightened in later seasons to the point that fans quit the shows in protest. While the show returned to its serious roots in the end, the show was eventually cancelled in 1968.
Ugh. Tom Cruise ruining yet another fantastic spy concept. Ugh, ugh, ugh. There's just no words.
