The writer allegedly left due to editorial wanting to kill John Stewart.
RIch Johnston is earning his Christmas bonus this year. The Bleeding Cool ne'er-do-well is reporting that Josh Fialkov left DC due to the company wanting to kill off Green Lantern John Stewart. Stewart, one of DC's most prominent black superheroes, has been shunted off into a secondary role as of late with the resurgence of Hal Jordan, but the character has enjoyed popularity from mainstream fans due to the character's appearance in Green Lantern Corps.
"After seeing all the press from the Orson Scott Card debacle, we decided we wanted to do something even more boneheaded," said one unnamed DC editor. "And then we realized we hadn't killed a minority character in like three months!"
DC has a long and proud history of killing off minority superheroes. In fact, back in 2010, a list was distributed around the blogosphere of 22 minority legacy superheroes that have been killed or otherwised screwed by DC. DC is all about history, it seems, even when that history is an uncomfortable whitewashing of their heroes.
Anyways, I'm sure this will go over well with fans. In fact, I see a bunch of them now, all of them wielding pitchforks and torches.
