We've got good news and bad news for fans of the 2009 blaxploitation spoof, Black Dynamite. The good news is that the character is coming to comic books in a new series from IDW in September. The bad news is that, moments after announcing the comic, the company announced plans to kill the character off in a super mega crossover event.
"When we saw how much publicity DC Comics generated two weeks ago when Joshua Hale Fialkov walked off his job as writer of Red Lantern and Green Lantern Corps due to alleged editorial plans to kill prominent black Green Lantern John Stewart, we thought to ourselves, 'we gotta get some of this action," said IDW editor in chief Chris Ryall in a quote that we may have completely made up. "Unlike DC, however, we won't cave to the pressure, and we'll kill this well-known African American character for cheap shock value no matter how racist it may be."
There's no word yet on the creative team behind the project, but IDW is reportedly looking for creators with low moral fiber who will be willing to follow editorial directives to exploit a respected franchise for the promise of short-term monetary gain.
"Is Len Wein done with Before Watchmen yet?" Ryall asked. "See if he's available."
