Robert Redford will be playing the head of SHIELD in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In an interview with CBR's Spinoff blog, the veteran actor revealed that he'd be playing the chief honcho of everyone's favorite international spy agency. When asked about his role during a presser for The Company You Keep, Redford noted that he'd be playing "the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
SHIELD's been headed up by Nick Fury, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Maria Hill, Norman Osborn and Dum Dum Dugan, among others. Since all of those characters have already been seen in the Marvel movieverse (or are controlled by other studios such as Sony), we're expecting this to be either a new character or a white version of Nick Fury, who is an entirely different character from Samuel Jackson's Fury character. While the latter is definitely unlikely, there are both white and black one-eyed characters named Nick Fury running around in the Marvel comics right now, so anything's possible.
