DC Comics Dominates Second Place on March Sales Charts

DC executives celebrated a massive second place victory in Diamond's March sales numbers.

Though Diamond Comics released their March sales numbers over the weekend, the party was still going strong on Tuesday morning at the offices of DC Comics. The reason for the celebration: DC scored a decisive victory on the charts, earning the proverbial silver medal by securing the second place spot, leaving their competitors (except Marvel) trailing by nearly twenty percentage points. DC executives and employees were said to have been "partying like it's 1999," another year in which the company found itself firmly in second place on the sales charts, like pretty much every year.

"Whooooooo!" said DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan Didio upon learning that his company had scored second place on the sales charts for the 465th time since Diamond first began tracking the numbers. "We did it again!"

Indeed, DC Comics has owned the coveted "number two" spot for as long as anyone can remember. Though they found themselves briefly in first place with the launch of their Nu52 initiative in late 2011, the company quickly slipped back into their comfortable second place slot once people realized that, despite brand new number one issues, DC Comics still featured boring characters like Superman and Aquaman instead of exciting Marvel characters like Wolverine and Wolverine.

"It was like putting lipstick on a pig," said DC's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns of the temporary sales boost.

"Mmmmm," said DC Editor in Chief Bob Harras while french-kissing a Vietnamese Potbelly that was stuffed into an orange sun dress and painted up like a whore.

As it turns out, the company is perfectly happy being number two. "Competing with Marvel is hard," admitted Co-Publisher Jim Lee. "I mean, I didn't play video games for a whole six months back when I was drawing Justice League. Was it really worth missing out on all that gaming just so we could defeat Marvel in the monthly sales charts?"

"No, it wasn't," Lee pointed out, just in case you thought his question was rhetorical. "Not when I can play all the games I want and still kick Image Comics' asses."

"Suck it, Image," added Dan Didio while thrusting his hips disturbingly. "Hey Kirkman, tell me how my ass tastes!"

Image Comics held 8% of the retail market share in March, compared to DC's 27%. Other companies DC defeated include IDW at 6%, Dark Horse at 4.5%, and Dynamite Entertainment at 2%. Marvel scored 40% of the retail market, but SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

"We really don't think Marvel's sales should be taken into account," said Bob Harras when he had finished having sex with a pig.

"Why," we asked him.

"Because," he replied.

Here's the sales charts, provided graciously by Diamond DC Comics:
