A game of high stakes poker has emerged in Hollywood as a number of theatre chains, including AMC, are refusing to sell tickets for Iron Man 3 as Disney attempts to renegotiate terms for their future movie.
Disney, of course, has a lot of skin in the game as they have a number of major blockbusters lined up, including Iron Man 3, Captain America and Thor sequels, Avengers 2 and a new batch Star Wars films. They'd like to make as much money as they can on these films, which apparently brings them into conflict with movie theatres, who'd also like to make a lot of movie on these films.
Until the conflict is resolved, many theatres are refusing to sell presales tickets, which are an increasingly important part of blockbuster opening weekend numbers.
We reached out to Outhouse Senior Hollywood Business Correspondent Hobo Joe, who often sits outside of the TCL Chinese Theatre, about the conflict. "Everyone likes money!" Hobo Joe said. "Now give me your teeth!"
We'll continue to report on Hollywood things we don't really understand as we learn about them.
