The show's producers admit they probably should have ended it two seasons ago.
Showtime has revealed that the upcoming eighth season of popular serial killer drama Dexter will be the final season of the show. Showtime also released a new teaser for the season, embedded below.
"We should have cut this off as soon as Deborah admitted to wanting to have sex with her brother at the end of Season 6," said an apologetic Showtime executive. "I mean, there's jumping the shark, and then there's jumping the shark."
"We can't take back the damage we've already done," he added, "but we can stop before we soil the legacy of this once excellent show any further."
Season 8 of Dexter premieres on June 30th on Showtime at 9PM Eastern, and Bit Torrent at 10:01PM. The story picks up six months after the end of Season 7.
