Dark Horse sent out a press release today both celebrating the two year anniversary of Dark Horse Digital, Dark Horse's online digital comics outlet and phone and tablet app, and announcing that Dynamite Entertainment would be offering their digital comics through Dark Horse's store. The Outhouse reached out to J.J. Evans, president of Dynamite Entertainment, to find out more about how the two companies came to work together.
"By teaming up with Bad Horse and the rest of the Evil League of Evil," Evans proudly told us, "we hope to blow up paper comics for good."
We explained that the company had actually teamed with Dark Horse, a comic book publisher, and not Bad Horse, the Thoroughbred of Sin from Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible musical webseries. A subtle difference.
A deflated Evans responded, "wait, Dark Horse?! That's who we're teaming with, the guys that publish Hellboy? What sort of evil digital distribution plan do they offer?"
We explained that Dark Horse does not offer any evil digital distribution plan that we're aware of, and that, in fact, it is simply a regular digital distribution plan that they have signed on for, to the best of our knowledge.
"Do the comics contain mind-altering, hypnotic messages that will turn anyone who looks at the screen for too long into violent, rampaging maniacs?" Evans asked hopefully.
We explained that no, the comics probably would not contain any hypnotic messages whatsoever, and would in fact likely simply be digitized pages from the print comics they publish on a regular basis.
"When downloaded to a device like an iPad, will the device become animated and maybe eat the reader, or at least tear them to shreads?" asked a desperate Evans. "Are these cannibalistic comic books?"
"Okay, okay..." bargained Evans. "At the very least, are Dark Horse digital comics offered in a quality format at reasonable prices, thus ensuring they will utterly destroy the direct market forever?"
Evans processed the information.
