This was...unexpected. Alex Suskind, the editor for Moviefone, has reported on Twitter that ComicsAlliance has been shuttered by AOL.
This news is being backed by Robot6, who confirmed that rumors about the site's demise began to circulate at C2E2 and Stumptown this weekend.
While it's totally like a well-respected, Eisner nominated site to upstage us by getting shut down by its parent company, this is actually a pretty big blow for comics journalism. ComicsAlliance was always on the forefront of criticizing some of the more unsavory elements of the industry, they had a talented writing staff, and while their constant posts about Adventure Time merchandise and cosplay photos were annoying, they were certainly one of the better comic book sites to follow.
I'm pouring a beer out in my cubicle for you, ComicsAlliance, you'll be missed. Also, to any ComicsAlliance writers looking for a temporary home, we'd be more than happy to keep your writing cockles warm until a better site hires you.
Our friends at Nix Comics are sponsoring The Outhouse this week. Show them you appreciate it by checking out their comics. One dollar from every Nix Comics sold this month will go to Kirby-4-Heroes.
