Avengers 2 could already be in jeopardy, claims Hollywood Reporter. A new article, released yesterday, details the testy negotiations looming between Marvel Studios and the cast of Avengers 2. According to the report, Robert Downey Jr. is leading the charge to help negotiate better deals for himself and other castmembers after previous contracts led to Downey earning $50 million for Avengers while some of his castmates earned as little as $200,000.
The core issue is Marvel's notorious frugalness, one of Marvel CEO's Ike Perlmutter's signature traits. The comic industry has had dealings with Perlmutter's frugalness before. One popular story is that Perlmutter prohibited Marvel from purchasing paper clips after he noticed some in the trashcan, forcing editors to schedule offsite illicit meetings with freelancers to obtain the office supply. Of course, it remains to be seen whether Marvel considers Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the Avengers cast to be as unnecessary as paper clips are.
We asked Outhouse Senior Hollywood Correspondent Hobo Joe, who spends much of his time sitting near the TCL Chinese Theatre, about his views on the ongoing negotiations. "Everyone makes has more money than Hobo Joe," our analyst said. "And toes too. Everyone has more toes than Hobo Joe."
This is sure to be one of the bigger stories of the summer, so we'll continue to give you updates as they happen.
