Geoff Johns and Paul Pelletier are listed on the cover of Aquaman #20 as writer and artist for the issue. Considering that Johns and Pelletier are the series' regular creative team, that shouldn't be much of a surprise, right?
The only problem is that DC announced last month that John Ostrander and Manuel Garcia would be writing a fill-in this issue, featuring Aquaman's allies "The Others". And indeed, Ostrander and Garcia are both credited in the issue, with Pelletier's only contribution being the cover. According to the interior credits, Johns wasn't involved with the issue at all.
We asked DC junior graphics intern Vlad Kozinkerkov, about the mistake. "Creators?" Kozinkerov said. "What are these creators you speak of? Vlad only know of interchangable cogs in great machine that is DC."
I suppose Ostrander and Garcia should be grateful that DC bothered to credit them at all. Still, if you're a freelancer looking to get some work for DC, don't expect DC to actually recognize you on the cover of your own book. I can't help but wonder if Gene Ha or Brett Booth will be credited for their work on upcoming issues of Justice League and Justice League of America.
If there's one silver lining here, it's that the issue is pretty good. Ostrander helps to make the Others more than one-off support characters and even introduces a new minority superhero for DC to kill off in a couple years.
