Fables, the long-running series from DC's "myopic" Vertigo franchise, is being targetted for the big screen. Nikolaj Arcel, director of Dutch film A Royal Affair, is set to direct and David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films will produce. Heyday Films previously produced a series of little known films based on the obscure Harry Potter novels.
This is the third time WB has tried to make Fables into a movie/television franchise. WB tried in 2004, and then looked to ABC to produce a television show (which ABC passed on for the entirely different fairy tale characters in the real world show Once Upon a Time).
The news comes a week after DC co-publisher Dan Didio questioned the relevancy of Fables imprint, Vertigo, calling its sales model myopic. Yup, it's sure is short-sighted to have all those trades in bookstores for people to buy when this movie comes out, ain't it?
Our friends at Nix Comics are sponsoring The Outhouse this week. Show them you appreciate it by checking out their comics. One dollar from every Nix Comics sold this month will go to Kirby-4-Heroes.
