Earlier today Microsoft announced the Xbox One would be $499 at launch. Rumor coming from Games Industry International is that Sony may price the upcoming PS4 at 3 different SKUs, including configurations at $399, $499, $599. No word on what the difference in those SKUs could be outside of a likely difference in storage space.
It could be an interesting approach with how the reaction has been thus far to the announced price point of the Xbox One. On the one hand, they could have a price point that undercuts the Xbox by $100. On the other hand, when different system configurations exist, the lower tiers are rarely worth it to anyone except the console manufacturer (case in point: the original lower tier 360 didn't have a hard drive and was later worthless as XBLA and the 360 evolved). I know if they launched at these price points, I'd never consider any model except the highest end tier to try to ensure better longevity with the system.
How about you? Would you rather buy an Xbox One at $499, or one of 3 potential prices for PS4? Or have you already shunned these consoles for their prices, content to keep what you have now?
