James Gandolfini, veteran actor and star of such classics as HBO's The Sopranos and the awesome movie True Romance, has passed away at the age of 51, reportedly due to an unexpected heart attack. We heard the news first on Deadline.com, but it was soon confirmed by HBO. Besides the joy and entertainment his acting brought to millions of fans, as gritty gangster Tony Soprano on The Sopranos, Gandolfini helped kick off a sort of creative renaissance for original premium TV dramas like True Blood, Dexter, and Game of Thrones, the influence of which is noticeable in even more of the hyper-realistic dramas on regular cable today.
