DC Comics has gotten some bad press the last decade or so due to the comically Dilbertesque corporate blundering that seems to cause multiple well known creators to walk off DC books approximately once every three week. Somewhere in one of the 52 known universes, a composed and savvy Dan Didio is listening to the criticism of fans and the press and reacting with positive changes. That's not this universe, though.
As Sun Tzu once said, "if all else fails, blame it on the Twitter," and that's just what Didio has chosen to do. According to the beleaguered Co-Publisher, DC's creator walkoffs are totally normal, and it's only the prevalence of social media that gives it the appearance of being an endemic problem. From The Beat:
Co-publisher, Dan Didio gave a boisterous speech about admitting that DC’s “new 52″ had only been planned up for a first act, and they had all been surprised that the “new 52″ would have garnered so much momentum two years ago. He also confided that with any raising momentum, there inevitably a decline in momentum and DC is now prepared to unveil their second act. He also addressed that creative changes are common place in the business of comic books and the seeming severity of it now is only much more apparent due to social media. Didio’s admission and affirmations had re-instilled confidence amongst the retailers, but only time can officially tell how successful this “second act” will be.
Wait, what? Retailers actually bought that horse shit? I'll be damned. Maybe Didio isn't as dumb as we thought.
"Never doubt the wisdom of a Chinaman," Didio told us, kicking off a new round of negative press coverage. Goddamn it.
