This bodes well for Vertigo: 6 new series this year, including Sandman: Overture

The beleaguered imprint looks to be getting back on their feet.

We here at The Outhouse are fond of saying that things 'don't bode well for Vertigo', and for the last few years we have had good reason to do so. Once a bastion of innovation and creativity in comics, Vertigo has fallen off as of late. Whether that's because of DC Corporate trying to destroy it or Image Comics stealing it's thunder, basically Vertigo is now just Fables and The Unwritten and a few mini-series.

It's pretty sad.

But things are looking up! First off, Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy's The Wake is kicking ass and selling more than any other Vertigo series in the last 10 years. And now Vertigo is launching 6 brand new series, chief among them the return of Neil Gaiman to Sandman.

This new series finally has a name, Sandman: Overture, and it's a prequel series that will tell the story of just how Morpheus became weak enough to be captured way back in Sandman #1 and features artwork from the amazing JH Williams III and will ship bi-monthly starting on October 30th.

Then in November, Vertigo will launch a new ongoing series set in the Sandman Universe, the return of The Dead Boy Detectives. No creative team has been announced, but it's set to feature the debut of a Dead Girl Detective.

Also announced are two new series from acclaimed writers. Peter Milligan is launching an 'erotic thriller' called The Discipline, and Ian Edginton has Hinterkind, which is a post-apocalyptic story with mythical elements.

The final 2 series have yet to be announced, but at least they're announcing something. Vertigo is back, baby!

Niam Suggitt, Punchy to his friends, is the most humblest of all the Outhouse writers.  His easy going manner and ability to see and recognize the point of views of those who he disagrees with has made him one of the most sought after members of our community to resolve conflicts.  Although he likes all of you, and considers everyone to be his friend, Punchy would prefer you use “Niam Suggitt” when quoting him for the front cover blurb on your book.  Follow this wonder of a man at @NiamSuggitt, if you want to, he’s cool with you either way.
