Captain James Yarmouth was piloting a Boeing 757 from New York to San Diego when he heard that TVLand would be bringing actress Roseanne Barr to the event. So he did what any pilot bearing passengers to ComicCon would do he turned the plane around. "I have a duty to protect my crew and the people aboard the plane," said Yarmouth after making an emergency landing in Omaha. The pilot was immediately hailed as a hero and was given the key to the city and a ticker tape parade upon arrival.
Yarmouth's not the only pilot to stop his flight after learning that the actress would be attending the largest geek event of the year. Nearly a dozen flights have been temporarily grounded as airline companies determine whether or not it's still safe to land in San Diego. "I saw a stand up special she did last year," said one Transatlantic Line executives. "It put me in coma for two months. When I woke up, my airline company had merged with a German fleet and Obama had won a second term in office."
While no one is thrilled with Barr attending ComicCon, some fans are even less pleased with the delay. "For the love of god, she's a voice actor on TMNT," said one fan as he waited impatiently on the tarmac. "Why wouldn't she be allowed to attend?"
"Shut up, right this instant!" shouted a stewardess in reply. "We have a US Marshal aboard and he is not afraid to shoot you in your seat." The rest of plane cheered in response.
TVLand had hoped that bringing in Barr would go unnoticed as they announced that they'd also be bringing William Shatner, Wayne Knight and Donald Faison to the event. "I think this is a big overreaction," said a TVLand executive. "Wayne Knight is at least three times more annoying that Roseanne is in real life."
San Diego, which is also dealing with a sea blockade, is hoping to resolve the situation before ComicCon begins tomorrow. Legendary Pictures, in town to promote its upcoming Godzilla movie, has offered to have the legendary monster fight Roseanne, but San Diego officials are worried about the property damage and cleaning up the monster's carcass when Barr's grating voice inevitably causes its brain to explode.
