Due to a shortage of 3D materials, some of the covers will actually be videos of Rick Astley singing "Never Gonna Give You Up."

DC has been in a lot of hot water on the internet already for the fiasco surrounding their 3D Villains' Month covers, but things may continue to heat up for the beleaguered publisher. A source inside DC comics tells The Outhouse that the lenticular paper shortage is deeper than DC is letting on and the company will be unable to even meet the allocation numbers they've promised retailers. As a result, and because it's now too late to even print more 2D covers, the company has decided to fill the remaining covers with videos of English singer/songwriter Rick Astley singing his 1987 hit song, Never Gonna Give You Up.
"At this point, people are gonna be pissed off no matter what we do," said DC head honcho Dan Didio, reportedly, explaining why the company has chosen to turn their cheesy marketing gimmick into a decade-old internet meme. "So I figure, we might as well have fun with it, you know?"
As of press time, it was unknown how DC planned to embed actual videos into comic book covers and how much it would cost the company to do so, but our source promises that the technology will be "lenticular," a word that doesn't really mean anything but which the entire comic book media has been using to refer to the paper, ink, and 3D covers themselves for weeks in a collective attempt to sound smarter than they actually are.
