The director's opening sequence for The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXIV is kind of awesome.
So Ol' Jude Terror is watching some football and ignoring the harrowing world of the 24 hour comics news cycle, but I thought I'd pop on and share this video because they just aired it on a commercial during the Seahawks/Colts game, provoking two and a half minutes of ooohs and aaahs from my otherwise completely disinterested domestic cohabitants. It's the opening credits from this year's Treehouse of Horror from The Simpsons, which airs tonight, and this one is created by acclaimed director Guillermo Del Toro. It basically packs as many horror tropes and references in a two and a half minute segment as humanly possible, and while that sort of thing is sometimes looked upon as fanwank, in this case it's goddamn awesome.
The Simpsons may not be in its glory years anymore, but the Treehouse of Horror has become a Halloween staple and, if nothing else, you should check it out when it airs at 8PM EST tonight on Fox just to see this sequence.
But if you're not planning on it, you can watch it on YouTube right now:
