DC Announces Batman Eternal, New Weekly Series by Snyder, Others

DC announced a bevy of changes to Batman's various series this morning.

DC unleashed a bevy of announcements concerning the Batman universe today, including a new weekly series, a new creative team on Detective Comics, and a special anniversary type issue. First off, DC announced Batman Eternal, a new weekly DC series written by Scott Snyder and a host of other writers, including James Tynion IV, John Layman, Ray Fawkes and Tim Seeley.  Snyder will act as a "showrunner", while the other writers will rotate as co-writers.  Jason Fabok was announced as an artist on the project, although it's unclear if he'll be joined by others. 

In an interview with USA Today, Snyder namedropped Gotham Central as a similar series to Batman Eternal, in that Batman's supporting and peripheral cast will come into focus.  However, Batman will still be at the center of the series, and each of Snyder's co-writers will be offering different types of stories ranging from horror-themed to human driven arcs to the book. Batman Eternal launches next spring.

Secondly, DC is celebrating the original Detective Comics #27 and Batman's 75th anniversary next spring with Detective Comics #27's next realease spring.  The book will be a 104 page bonanza featuring stories by Paul Dini, Brad Meltzer, Gregg Hurwitz, Peter Tomasi, Neal Adams, Dustin Nguyen and Francesco Francavilla, as well as the conclusion to John Layman's Detective Comics run.  Frank Miller will also be providing a two page spread for the book.  

Finally, Flash creative team Francis Manapul and  Brian Buccellato was confirmed as the new creative team for Detective Comics, starting with issue #28.
